      Hi

I want to compare two Opera settings from different computers. Both are 37.0.
One works properly, with the other I have problems while login to a site that works on the other one.

Where do I find the settings? Are they text-files?
Can I transfer one setting to the 2. computer?

Menu > Settings. And although they aren't settings, you may want to take a look at opera://flags/ too.

It's nearly impossible to compare from Opera GUI.
In the meantime I found the file operaprefs.ini.
But it is too large to compare alle the entries, even with WINDIFF - I don't know what to search there.

          Any ideas?

Aren't you using Opera 37? This file is for old Opera Presto (Opera 12 and older) and is not used in Opera Blink (Opera 15+)

            Any ideas?

I guess there is no easy way to do it. You will probably need to take not of the settings in one computer and then check if they are the same in the other one.

BTW, both have same extensions (if you are using any) and softwares (anti-virus, antimalware, etc) installed?

              Hi,

if operaprefs.ini is only used by older versions, why is it's file date from august 2016? I left this old version in Feb. 2015 ...

New problem: I tried an Update from 37 to 39.
When I start the program, it shows 37 as actual version.
              The file C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera\installation_status.xml records version="39.0.2256.48" ?

Maybe because you have an old version of Opera installed and are using it? Or Maybe because you upgraded from Opera Presto to Opera Blink back in August?

I tried an Update from 37 to 39.

                How did you try it?

As I wrote - I changed to the new engine (version Opera 27) in Feb. 2015.

There is no old version on my Computer.

And operaprefs.ini is about 2 weeks old.

And why does the actual version says V.37 while Opera\installation_status.xml reports V.39 ??
                  Strange kind of a game?

It's only possible something might have remained on your system, especially you could've stumbled upon such a file if that installation existed in the same folder(s).
Also, files might stray a bit if a user makes slight mishits when installing, or backing up, or something. That is not crucial perhaps for the whole application to work properly, remembering that those files are (re)created automatically if missing in the right folders.

Problem something went wrong in the update. Try running the installer again.

How did you update from Opera Presto to Opera Blink? If you just use the same installation folder then there may be remains of Opera Presto there.

And do you use Opera Mail by chance?

                        Hi,

Of course I had old versions of Opera, since v 3,5 or so... never had problems with updates.
And operaprefs.ini is from this august ...? If it just remained from an old version, why is it new?

I open Menue / about and find as actual version 37.0; to update for 39.0 I press the Start Button on that tab. The tab refreshs and shows v 37 again.

Next try - Got a fresh OperaSetup.exe from Opera and start ist. Same answer, 37.0 reported.

                        And never used Opera Mail.

In Opera's installation folder, do you see a folder named with version 39 build number?

                            There are 2 folders:
                            37.0.2178.43
                            39.0.2256.48

What happens if you download latest Opera 39 and install it?

Before doing it, you can try renaming the 37.0.2178.43 folder to see if there are any changes.

I mean the (offline)installer in the link in my comment.

in the meantime I went back to a clean image and could update to Opera 39.
Maybe something was wrong with the last installation...

What is the difference between your large Opera_39.0.2256.48_Setup.exe and OperaSetup.exe which I used?

One is the offline installer and the other is the online one. As the second one needs to first download the installation files, it may have happened that a corrupted download was causing the issue.
