Is it just me, or does 48 bucks a year fail to meet the commonly accepted definition of "free".

I have a free SurfEasy account which worked just fine in Opera until a few days ago, and now won't connect to anything. Is this because SurfEasy thought the free VPN in Opera would go live with version 38, but Opera delayed it until version 39? If so there doesn't seem to be much communication going on!

Nope. Thats not how features work in Opera. Major features like the VPN don't 'jump forward' in version numbers. It was introduced in 39 Alpha (Development channel), then was promoted to 39 Beta, and will finally be released in, you guessed it, 39 Stable.
