How do I upgrade my beta install

So I have 39.0.2248.0 installed. Then I downloaded the latest release and ran the installer. I assumed it would upgrade my current install but instead it installed another copy of the beta. I don't need two beta versions on my desktop. I also would like to keep the customization I have done to the current install. How do I simply upgrade it to the latest version? Thanks for your help!

What installer did you download? It seems that you have a developer build (39.0.2248.0) installed and a beta one, probably 39.0.2256.4.

If you don't want to have both, just remove one of them.

Yeah, it was 39.0.2256.4. So which one should I really have? I mean what's the difference between the developer version and whatver 39.0.2256.4 happens to be?

It seems to me that you should remove both and install the stable version.
