Preserving/Transfering/Importing Bookmark List(s)

Hi all...I'm new here though not new to using Opera since back in Version 9 or so. One of mt favorite versions has always been 12.16/17 and I've always preferred and especially loved how well/exceptional Opera has always managed tabs and has allowed for exceptional saving of, accessing of, alphabetic sorting of and managng of an endless (it seems) list of links and folders. Invaluable in my opinion is this ability of Opera 12 for this ability to someone like me, You see I save and download alot of music videos and thus links which I categorize in folders by genre and sub-folders by artists w/further sub-folders by albums and so on. As an example, for Bob Dylan alone I have over 250 links saved, same for The Beatles, The Stones, and so on. For this reason I have continued to use my Opera 12.17 version as I have put in alot of time and effort into my saved links in my bookmark/favorite list within my Opera12.17 browser. Until recently I have been able to continue to use Opera12.17, but recently my Opera12.17 stopped working and gives me an 'unable to connect to proxy server' error message and upon rebooting and re-launching my Opera12.17 browser it is stuck in that error status and will not connect. My questions are thus: 1) Is there a work-around to this so
that I can continue to use Opera12.17 and be able to salvage my links and use of them? 2) I also hve loaded Opera 20 -though it crashes my Windows Vista machine, soon to be Windows 7, upon closing of the browser- but I also need to know how I can transfer/import my boolmark list from my Opera12.17 browser to Opera 20 or 30. Any advice and tips pn 'How to' on that would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you all in advance, again I would much appreciate any tips you all can offer as well as on advising me on what the best current version of Opera you all are using and that one should be using now for ease, versatility, and security. Thank you all for your time and help. Depepper55...Thanks...0

There is a compatibility update to 12 - 12.18. You should update to it.
Some folk were talking about 12.20, but I'm unaware if it's it.
Then, the ultimate Blink version for older Windows is Opera 36. I don't know how bookmarks are handled there though.. -

Kinda hard to read a text without paragraphs.
recently my Opera12.17 stopped working and gives me an 'unable to connect to proxy server' error message
And do you use any proxy?
- Is there a work-around to this so
that I can continue to use Opera12.17 and be able to salvage my links and use of them?
Why don't you try 12.18, if you don't want to use Opera Blink?
- I also hve loaded Opera 20 -though it crashes my Windows Vista machine, soon to be Windows 7
Latest stable version is 38 (for Windows 7+) and 36 for those with XP and Vista. There is no meaning in using and two year old version of Opera Blink.
how I can transfer/import my boolmark list from my Opera12.17 browser to Opera 20 or 30
Opera Blink should import it during installation. You can also export your Opera 12 bookmarks as html and impor them into Opera 36/38.
- Is there a work-around to this so

Hey Guys - joshl & leocg - VERY Happy to report that my upgrade to Opera 12.18 went very well and transferred/imported/preserved all my Bookmarks and links successfully and all is well. I also discovered after I relaunched Opera 12.18 and when I got the 'could not connect to proxy server'-which I didn't realize I was set to do - discovered through 'Opera Help' and upon pressing f12 that my machine/browser setting for proxy servers was checked somehow and thus blocking my internet connection. I unchecked the 'proxy servers' box and BINGO---SUCCESS.
Thanks again Guys...I owe you, you're lifesavers indeed. All is well at this end it appears. Let me go test drive my restored favorite browser and I hope all functions as it should. Only question(s) that I have now is how/why the proxy servers box got or became checked when it should not have been unless it is the default setting and it worked before that way and my other question would be why I was not automatically informed/upgraded to Opera 12.18 from 12.17 when it became available as I always had been notified and offered the upgrade before. Oh well it's all good now but it would be nice to have those answers. You guys are great, thanks...

You may have enabled it by mistake or it may be changed by another program that you have installed, don't know.
why I was not automatically informed/upgraded to Opera 12.18 from 12.17
How was your settings on updates?

Hi again leocg, just thought I'd followup from our last conversation and that I'd give an update again now that I've had a chance to test drive my Opera 12.18 and again I'm happy to report that all still appears to be functioning as hoped and as expected. In answer to your last question on my update settings, I can only say that I am set to automatic updates, of course this is what they are set to now after the 12.18 update from what had been a 12.17 last install so I cannot say for sure what they were set to prioe when I did not get an alert/notice for the available update/upgrade to 12.18, so it will have to remain an mystery, but I am set to automatic now and unless it gets somehow changed without my knowledge I should remain in touch with any furure notices of updates/upgrades.
On a related note, while I was checking my settings and such, and upon and based from some security advice I have been given in reference to java vulnerabilities and the recommended disabling of java in browsera I did such in my Opera but then upon visiting a site thet uses/requires java I was notified by the site that I am unable to view said site due to java being disabled in my browser. Are you aware of this issue with java and is there a work-around for this or a fix to the java vulnerabilities that you know of so as to be able to have java enabled safely in Opera? I would appreciate your take on this issue.
Also while I am speaking to you, I came to using Opera back in about Version 8 or 9 via having come from using My IE2/Maxthon and having fallen in love with Maxthon by how they introduced and managed tabbed browsing, But then after a while and they no longer continued in that format/platform and went instead to a Google Chrome type design I had to give it up and went looking for a browser like the original Maxthon and found Opera which was as close as I could hope for in the management of tabs so I've been very happy with that stroke of luck. I realize that things evolve and hopefully for the better but sometimes too the 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' axiom can also apply and newer isn't necessarily always better. What I'm getting at is that to the extent that it applies to me and to the extent that it may be in your power and your input to the powers that be there at Opera, please recommend that they - Opera - continue to support and promote and design upgrades for the Opera 12 format/platform/design. I don't object to some of the new designs out there like cloud based browsers -I use Maxthon Cloud on occasion - and even the Google Chrome design though it is far from my favorite as it uses to many cpu cycles and processes to run and an iteration for every tab you open and it seems too inefficient to and for me. I'm all for innovation but not at the expense of efficiency, friendliness, and ease. Again I hope our input is well received and offers valuable feedback.
Again thank you very much for your help and for your time and consideration. Have a great one to you... Drpepper55
