This is a H.264 (MP4) video. Hint: if you right-click the player, select inspect element and expand the highlighted element you can check that with ease.

Plays in Google Chrome, and in Firefox using the DivX Web Player.
Won't play in Opera 12.17 or 24 though.
The player appears but is inactive.
        😞

@davehawley First, check the first reply to this topic. The reason why Opera does not support MP4 up until its latest stable versions is well-known.

I'm not sure about the DivX Web Player. Is it being used at all by Chrome and Firefox? They could be playing it natively without using the plug-in you mentioned as both support MP4 in some form.

As far as I could see Google Chrome 35 was playing the video internally, right clicking on it produced no menu entries about any plugin.
If I right clicked on the same video in Firefox 29, a menu came up relating to the DivX Web Player plugin, but from what you say that could be a Firefox configuration issue.
            🙂

If you mean Opera not relying on the OS to play h264 videos, I guess it will never happen.

Chrome has a built in h.264 renderer. It is not using one from your OS. Google has the money to spend on a license, and are perfectly okay with losing money on their web browsers (which they are). Opera does not have that option and since you are using a version of Windows that is 9 years old or older you don't have the standing to complain about it being '2016 still no native h264 support." Upgrade your OS and it will fix the problem.

So for us peasants who are still on XP is there any way to get Opera to play h.264 with some extension or something?
