what i can't figure out is why opera didn't have this ENABLED

It does have it enabled by default since a long time. Maybe yours was disabled because you were using another pdf reader plugin.

Well, tell the Foxit devs to upgrade their extension to someone that wasn't programmed during Clinton's first term.

is there an official response from Opera about Acrobat pdf reader and whether they working on including it in the next update? or have they decided not to even bother? I would like to know so I can switch my browser (which I really don't want to do) if they have no intention of supporting it in the very near future. At the moment I am switching between browsers which isn't very practical as passwords etc either have to be retyped each time or I have to give permission for firefox to save them. I like using Opera as my main browser, storing passwords and form info, and use Firefox if I need to keep my details hidden so it is set up to open in a private tab.

Yes. The Acrobat Reader plugin is NPAPI. NPAPI support is being dropped by every major browser worth its salt. It has already been drop by Chrome based browsers and Firefox will be ending its support around the end of this year. It has already been replaced by the PPAPI, which both FIrefox and Chrome based browsers already support fully. It is up to the maker of old plugins, in this case Adobe, to update their stuff to PPAPI.

                    Hi lando242,

Thanks for the reply, I am not sure nor do I want to know what NPAPI or PPAPI are. I want my browser to work and to do the job I want. The Chrome pdf reader is not what I want, although I can understand some people seem to prefer it. While I agree Adobe need to make an effort, I also think Opera need to listen to what people are asking for and make an effort themselves.

Even if NPAPI is not being supported, in my opinion Opera should at least try and help those of us that still want to use Abode and the Opera browser.

After 6+years of using Opera I'm afraid it's time for me to change to a browser that gives me the functions I want and not what it think I want/need. So it's a fond farewell to Opera I'm afraid.

And exactly which browser are you going to switch to? Chrome? NPAPI is already removed. Firefox? It will buy you about 8 months before they remove it as well. Internet Explorer? Lets be serious. You can't have it both ways. You can't keep updating your browser to the latest version and expect it to support every buggy, out of date, security nightmare of a standard. SO you either have to move with the times or stop updating your browser.

Try installing Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. It has worked for me (opening PDFs within the Opera browser)on Win 7 Pro and Win 10 home and Pro. Opera seems to have the underpinnings of Chrome so when in doubt, think like a Chrome user...!
