Hi,

another chapter of "getting Opera worse"???
Apparently, Opera does not display pdf-files anymore, neither through Adobe Reader nor the built-in pdf-viewer.

Could anyone offer some kind of solution? Would appreciate that.

It does indeed display the files through built-in pdf-viewer.

Npapi plugins are no longer supported, so Acrobat plugin will not work.

I am seeing this problem as well with the built-in viewer. It appears Opera 36 uses the new version of Chrome's PDF viewer, and it does not as seem as quick or stable as the old one.

Sometimes the PDF's just take a very long time to load (far longer than previously for identical files), and other times it only loads if I refresh the PDF URI after trying to load it from a link. Occasionally, it doesn't load at all, and there remains just a white screen.

If I load a PDF file that is on my local machine, it works, but takes a few seconds longer than on the old PDF viewer.

Switching between the plugin options "load all content" and "click to play" makes no difference, except that with click-to-play, the white screen still occurs and then once the PDF reader does load, I need to click to display it. I suppose this proves the issue is at a level below that.

I had the Per-plugin content settings extension installed so that I could have click-to-play for all plugins except PDF (which would always just load). Disabling and even uninstalling the extension has had no effect. I will note that the extension's options page is now also a blank screen on Opera 36, whereas on Opera 35 and earlier it displayed fine. I hope the extension has not made some permanent changes to my installation that removing the extension did not undo...

I'm on Opera 36 stable, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Machine/connection is not slow (Core i7, 8GB RAM, premium SSD, 100mbit fibre).

Just a ditto here. I'm not real wild about the new interface either, and I notice that my personal login icon was either moved somewhere else or no longer appears anywhere. OK, change happens and the interface issue is a matter of taste, but I've been obliged to move to Chrome to see pdfs as I just get a gray screen when I have to open a pdf. Hopefully it will be resolved soon or I will have to move permanently to Chrome.

Using v. 36 stable on a Windows 10 home, 64-bit, with an i7 processor and 8Gb RAM.

I'm having the same problem with opera 36 not opening pdf files (blank page)--always worked before--forced to use opera 12.17 or IE explorer 11--both work fine with pdfs
another problem just showed up this evening with making a purchase on costco.com--at check out i could not access country or state menus in filling out address information and previously saved address and payment information was not available or viewable--again, all this worked fine on opera 12.17 and IE 11
as a long time satisfied user of opera this is really disappointing--this new version is a mess for even normal usage

using win 7 pro 64 bit with I7 processor and 16gb ram

By design, the sync icon will only shows up if necessary.

've been obliged to move to Chrome to see pdfs as I just get a gray screen when I have to open a pdf.

With a play button in the middle? If so, just disable Turbo or check if click to play is active for plugins.

You have to switch off your pdf plugin leaving only the built-in chrome-pdf viewer... or switch back to Opera35 like I did.

does anyone know if opera intends on fixing this problem of not being able to view pdfs in the browser via other software or plugins? this kind of a big deal for many users.

As support for npapi plugins has almost ended, i would guess they will not fix it.

I have to say I do not like the Chrome PDF reader and if Opera do not intend to allow the Acrobat reader to be used then I will have to switch to a different browser. It is a shame because I have used Opera for over 5 years and until now found it to be the best available browser, supported by most developers and websites. Opera need to issue a statement to say whether they are going to support Acrobat reader or not. Although I'm not happy about it, I would be willing to wait a short time before beginning the tedious task of switching, but Opera needs to tell us, its users what is going on.

Well, all Chromium based browsers have lost or are losing support for npapi plugins. Also, Firefox already announced that they also will drop support for those plugins.

So unless Acrobat changes to ppapi, there won't be that many browsers to use the plugin.

actually, i just discovered, as some have mentioned here, that opera 36 can use the chrome pdf viewer and it is available to use via the 'developer tools'section. when i finally got around to checking this, i found that the chrome pdf viewer was disabled, apparently by default since i had not viewed these tools before. i enabled the viewer and magically i can now view pdf files in the opera 36 browser. it doesn't appear to be as feature rich as my main viewer 'pdf-xchange viewer'(great free viewer by the way), but it works fine and is much better than having to switch to another browser or download the file just to look at it. go to menu, more tools, select 'show developer menu'...then go back to menu, developer, and then 'plug ins'. scroll down the page to 'chrome pdf viewer' and click enable. what i can't figure out is why opera didn't have this ENABLED by default!!! it sure would have made things a lot easier, at least for me.

It does have it enabled by default since a long time. Maybe yours was disabled because you were using another pdf reader plugin.

is there an official response from Opera about Acrobat pdf reader and whether they working on including it in the next update? or have they decided not to even bother? I would like to know so I can switch my browser (which I really don't want to do) if they have no intention of supporting it in the very near future. At the moment I am switching between browsers which isn't very practical as passwords etc either have to be retyped each time or I have to give permission for firefox to save them. I like using Opera as my main browser, storing passwords and form info, and use Firefox if I need to keep my details hidden so it is set up to open in a private tab.
