Have Opera OPEN files instead of SAVE them on an intranet.

Hello Opera People
When using an intranet based site that is hosted on a simple network share (i.e. not IIS or Apache Hosted), there are links to other files hosted locally, which I have access rights to.
For example I may have rights to a file hosted on a UNC path \servername\share\filename.xlsx
Other browsers (IE) will recognise this situation and so I can open the file, make changes, and when the file is closed the application it opens with (e.g. Excel) will simply save back to the location the file was opened from.
My problem is that Opera does not have this behaviour. In the example above, Opera will pop up the 'save as' dialog and force me to 'download' the file.
I therefore have to use IE for our intranet, I would rather use Opera.
I am sure the must be a fix but I do not see it.
Any ideas gratefully received.
