Ctrl + click to open links in background tab

I usually open new links by holding down Ctrl and left clicking the link.
This opens the page in new tab (ordered in tab row next to the source one).On some pages this is not possible and the action above either opens link in same window
or nothing happens. You must then right click the URL and select this option. Is there a way to force the browser to perform the first "open in background tab" action on these pages?

Example:
Try Ctrl + left click on an URL on this site: http://www.dn.no/
Firefox and Edge open background tab, while Opera and Chrome will not.
Same goes for notifications on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pagename/notifications/

Hey, it works fine for me. Dn.no and facebook will open every link via ctrl+left cklick (or middle mouse button) in a new background. Perhaps some extensions are causing the problem?
My opera version: Version: 33.0.1990.113

Thanks for checking wimibussard and leocg.
I guess it's just me, but I couldn't figure out how to troubleshoot the issue as it looks to be site-specific.
How could settings/extensions in Opera influence this behavior when it's the same case in Chrome?
Firefox and Edge open tabs in background on http://www.dn.no/ as normal.
I'll just right click and use the menu, no big deal - but strange.
