The "Zotero" research tool has never worked in Opera 12 or prior, but now works in Opera 18+, using the "Zotero Connector" Chrome extension. To use Zotero, first download Zotero Standalone from zotero.org. Then download the Zotero Connector from the Chrome Web Store. Prior to visiting the Chrome Web Store, you should install the Download Chrome Extensions extension from Opera add-ons.
Zotero automatically senses content in your web browser, allowing you to add this content to your personal library with a single click. Zotero collects all your research in a single, searchable interface. You can add links to web pages (bookmarks), snapshots of web pages, your notes, document files from Microsoft Office, Open Office, or Libre Office, PDFs, images, audio and video files, and really anything else. Zotero automatically indexes the full-text content of your library, enabling you to find exactly what you're looking for with just a few keystrokes. You can sync your Zotero data among different browsers and computers (such as between Opera 18+ and Firefox). You can also store your Zotero data on the Zotero servers....
You might consider putting the full information over in the Helpful Extras to customize Opera 18/19 (Mostly 19) thread in the Opera for Windows forum... it's becoming a good repository of useful tricks and software for the New Opera versions.

Before posting please educate yourself in relation to Opera's new browser. V.18 is capable of far more that v.15 and I suspect your 5 or 10 minutes with the new browser has given you the wrong idea. I'm not going to fill you in on what you're missing. You can do that by reading the developers' blogs.

Please, do you really think that the Opera link web page is a solution? I think that it is something like 8 years or more that I use Opera. I find really frustrating that Opera Link has not yet been implemented in the interface of new version browsers. It is something like 6 months or more that bookmarks don't work properly. I think I'll switch to another browser if they are not going to fix it in a reasonable time. And I am really sad about this, because I really like Opera.

I must be blind, dumb, or stupid cause I don't see any reference anywhere to a _Quick access bar_ on Opera 18 that I just downloaded minutes ago. Just a stash that has no way to load bookmarks into.
Why release this junk? Who doesn't use bookmarks? Even a quick access bar would not work for my mom who has no organization skills and bookmarks her pages into one big folder.

Your mom would be better off using the Stash, which has a search field.

There is no bookmarks toolbar offered to me when I import. I just downloaded Opera 18 today.

You've been up for too many days high on YOUR stash, twwekin on 27000 blog posts, my friend of the devil.
How is she going to import them to the _stash_ ? -

The real problem is that by using Opera 10 some years ago, when it WAS the best browser, locked me into its favorites in the first place. No browser can import from Opera, and Opera 12.16 mangles the HTML export of the favorites, so not only do sub-foldlers become top-level folders, many folders just disappear and their contents mingle randomly at the top-level. And I am only guessing that no links were lost that way...
So to move to another browser becomes a real pain when you have 1000 links.

I've had no problem exporting my bookmarks and sub-folders over to Firefox. The only problem is having to sort them manually. http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sort-bookmarks-quickly-find-ones-you-want

Good question - where are the bookmarks?
How do I import bookmarks if there is not prior Opera installation?
After reading this thread, it appears that I am to intuit that first I'm to install Google Chrome, import my bookmarks to them, export them to something else, and then import to Opera from Chrome. I went to Opera to avoid Chrome in the first place! ANd then I discover that Opera apparently does not support frames, whcih is kind of critical when the CAD software "Help" files require them. WHich was one of the reasons I was attempting to go back to Opera after all these years - I need to use those help files!
As for importing bookmakes (some how) and then sorting them manually.... if I only had a dozen or so, it might be viable. But I have more than a dozen bookmarks, the html file is 738K, and the toolbar starts with 8 buttons for the top level on the Bookmarks toolbar.
I wanted to get Opera up and running so I could get back to work. I already have enough non-sequitor "instructions" which make no sense, I didn't need another layer of nurdling cordwainers prior to deplenrating the nurfor trunion dingle arms.

If you can figure out the first bit, sorting them is easy enough.
I would not bother with Opera 18, but just install Opera 11.64 or 12.16, which can import your bookmarks from other browsers.

I agree rilef, this is currently a big mess. The directions are difficult to find, complicated, Opera even warns anything could happen, and it's ridiculous there is just not some simple way to create & store bookmarks. I also wonder where the hundreds of bookmarks I had in Opera previously are, and if they can be "re-imported" back, if there was an importer, that imported bookmarks...
Not being a full on computer geek, I am not willing to jump through a whole lot of complicated, confusing hoops, potentially harmful to other aspects, especially when there's not even unanimous agreement as to how effective a workaround it actually is. By removing many of the most basic functions of a browser, including this one, without communicating why & what is happening, and when changes will be coming, and if they'll be returned, the developers may be left with few users left to make use of their efforts.... -

It's been that lack of communication from the get-go that has been one of the major disappointments as well as the Achilles heel of the new browser. Very unfortunate that even now, after months of complaint threads, we still have relatively little communication regarding these issues. I'm at a loss to explain it.

Well, that looks like it could be a "simple solution", if it actually explained how, instead of only "for now, you can use this web interface to access your bookmarks and other data," which basically, tells me nothing. So, HOW do you use this web interface, exactly?

I did not say that this is a mess, big or otherwise. To the contrary, I don't see a few proposed menu name changes and moving of menus as a big deal. Opera 18+ will work fine, with or without these changes. But, the current menu names and structure should be changed, for no other reason than to avoid user confusion.

If you don't have Chrome installed, import your Opera 12 bookmarks, as HTML, into Chrome Portable. Then copy the Chrome Portable bookmark files ("Bookmarks" and "Favicons" and "Favicons-journal") from the Chrome Portable user profile folder to the Opera 18 user profile folder. If you already have Chrome installed, just copy the Chrome bookmark files into Opera. Your bookmarks are now "re-imported".
You also can create a portable/USB version of Opera 18+. Then import your bookmarks into this USB version of Opera, using the command line, as described here. Be sure not to use your regular version of Opera 18+ for this, since your existing Opera 18+ profile will absolutely be destroyed. Instead, use a separate, USB version of Opera. Then copy the bookmark files from the USB version of Opera 18+, and overwrite these same files in your regular version of Opera 18+. And, of course, you should backup, by making copies beforehand, of all your bookmark files in your regular version.
Well, it seems like a mess, to me, who for over 20 years, never had to jump through lots of technical hoops just to store, use, & create bookmarks, in any previous browser. I do have Chrome, and Firefox, & Safari, and had many bookmarks in whatever the last version of Opera that allowed them was. Using a browser should be a simple, pain-free means to navigate the internet, not something that occupies many waking hours, tweaking, and adjusting, and re-arranging everything, every time a new version is released. If Opera is going to become a "geek-only" vehicle, then users like myself will just give up, and leave it to you pros...

Much the same as you use the Bookmarks Panel. Open a folder, and click a bookmark link.

Hi Steven. The irony is that Opera Presto was viewed as the geeks' browser and Opera Blink is looked upon as a browser sorely lacking in features and configurability (to coin a word). The "new" browser is in a state of development and lacking many of the features you have come to depend upon so for the time being, it's probably better for you to stick with v.12.16 but keep an eye on the new browser and even run a separate installation of it and watch it grow. I agree with you that a browser should be relatively pain-free and that is what the new browser is hoped to become but the truth is, they rushed the new version out the door knowing it lacked many features that would ultimately cause a fair amount of confusion among users. It's possible to bookmark your favorite sites by using the Quick Access Bar. As for those sites you use on a regular basis, you might want to assign them to the Speed Dial. Stash is really meant for those sites you want to "read later" so to speak but not necessarily permanently bookmark. If you are having trouble setting up the QAB, just ask. Pesala has some posts in which he shows graphically how it can be done and if he doesn't have time to respond, I'll try and help.
