I recently switched from Chrome to Opera. Now Netflix will not load Silverlight. MS says Opera is not a supported browser for Silverlight. So...does this mean that I cannot watch Netflix on Opera?

Is Opera ending support for Silverlight the same time Google ends it? I just noticed on an internal Silverlight based page I got the message that it will soon be unsupported.

Opera uses the same engine as Google Chrome does, aka Chromium. The current version of the Chromium engine on Opera 32 is Chromium 45, the Chromium version that permanently removed NPAPI support from Chrome. Now, since NPAPI plugins still work on Opera, I gotta wonder if NPAPI will still be a part of Opera. My hunch tells me that it won't stay on Opera for long. My advice is to stick with the current Opera version, that is unless your Opera auto upgrades. Mine doesn't auto update, thankfully.

EDIT: As of right now, I don't know of any third party extension that has a workaround for this IF NPAPI support is removed from Opera. There's IE Tab but Opera doesn't support that extension. 😞

So.... does this mean Netflix doesn't work with Opera? After 15 years of avoiding it, I guess it's back to IE!?!? Or is there another work-around?

This article from 2014 says otherwise:

I'm still having Netflix problems. Netflix says "We cannot find all the required components to play Netflix on this device. Please visit chrome://plugins, ensure that the "Widevine Content Decryption Module" plug-in is enabled and that the "Always allowed" setting is checked." However under Opera->Developer->Plugins the PPAPI Widevine Content is there and enabled. I tried disabling and enabling again but no effect.
Is there a way to "uninstall" a plugin and then reinstall it?

I am using Opera 32.0 and have no issue with Netflix. My "Disable NPAPI Plug-ins" under flags is set to "standard (disabled)". In fact I have all flags set to standard. No issue whatsoever with Netflix.

Maybe try install silverlight again: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx

                  Good Luck!

Hi folks, I'm looking for a solution to this. I think the problem is clearly with Opera and to support that, here is my personal situation: Under my user I get the error "We cannot find all the required components to play Netflix on this device. Please visit chrome://plugins, ensure that the "Widevine Content Decryption Module" plug-in is enabled and that the "Always allowed" setting is checked." However, when my partner is logged on Netflix works fine. Same computer, same operating system, same version of Opera, etc. Something in the user settings or ???? has gotten switched and now my user has to use IE to watch Netflix. How do I reset this without losing all my other personalized settings?
The "uninstall then reinstall solution" is getting old.

Your issue seems unrelated to the topic's subject so please open another one.

I receive the following message when login in to my PayPal account.
T"this site uses a plug-in (Silverlight)that will soon be unsupported".

Unfortunately there sdoesn't seem to be any helpful solutions.

+1 to what @leocg wrote. I just now successfully logged in to PayPal on a system that has no Silverlight installed at all. Are you trying to log in directly from a known-good PayPal login link or from a link in some eMail or referring website?

I'm in the US, so it's possible there are some server variations for different world regions, though I strongly doubt that for a company operation the size of PayPal.
