External links open empty tabs (speed dial)

Simply put: If I click on a link from an external source (IRC, links from software, windows Help links, any software) they just open a new speed dial tab !UNLESS! the browser is closed first and clicking a link opens Opera. In this case the link works just fine.
I'm runnin version 33.0.1967.0, but this has happened throughout 33.0.
First I thought it was a matter of firewalls and such, so I turned everything off and the problem still persisted. And to make this even more peculiar, this only happens on my work computer. Take note that there are no network restrictions here. I have the latest version of Opera on my home desktop also but I do not have this problem with that setup. I'm pretty sure this is caused by some conflict with other software, but it's not like I can be sure. There's nothing much running on my work computer for obvious reasons.
So any ideas what would be causing this? Any ideas would help a lot.
