:tools: Scheduled maintenance

Heads up! Downtime for the Forums, related to the NodeBB upgrade, is planned for Thursday, December 14, starting from 10:00 UTC.
Please make sure to finish all your posts before this time. The downtime should only last for a few minutes.

Cannot download anymore.

  • I'm trying to start downloading some files[mp3s] using Tixati, however they won't move over to Tixati like they've always done in the past.
When i double click a file on the 'downloads' window so that Tixati automatically starts up, i get:
'No run action specified for files of this type (application/x-bittorrent) - you can set a run action by choosing `Set Run Action' from the File menu, or you can just drag the file to an application.'

I am doing the same thing as i have always done, and i've never had this message before. I've used Tixati with Opera for many years and it's always been fine.
I went to look on 'files' like the message told me, however i cannot find 'set run action.'
    Can someone help please?

  • I've followed some instructions to enable opera bittorrent, and then with it off as well, but still cannot download anything anymore.
Preferences/Advanced/Downloads. Typed 'torrent' in the box and then double clicked application/x-bittorent.

  • I just tried 2 other browsers to see if it made a difference but they didn't.
I follow the instructions to fix this problem yet it never works!

  • Version of Opera? Opera 12.x should be able to handle torrent files itself.

  • I got this message before.
No run action specified for files of this type (application/x-rpm) - you can set a run action by choosing `Set Run Action' from the File menu, or you can just drag the file to an application.

How do i find out which version of opera i have?

  • 'Menu/Help/About Opera'

  • Thanks.
Version 12.16, isn't that the latest? If it is then i'm stuffed!

I got this message yesterday when i tried to open up some software.
    'application/x-ms-dos-executable'

Its all to do with 'preferences/advanced/downloads' isn't it?

  • Just tried to get my free HD music sampler from HD Tracks and got the same old message: 'No run action specified for files of this type (application/x-bittorrent) - you can set a run action by choosing `Set Run Action' from the File menu, or you can just drag the file to an application.'

This is really pissing me off! I've gone to preferences/downloads/etc and followed instructions on how to fix this but it doesn't work.
Why is it the same when i use other browsers?

  • Things have changed again. Whereas i'd be able to get to the 'download' page before everything halted, i now can't even get to that.
Anything that i click on that says download just doesn't work anymore, the whole thing stops there. I've tried to open all types of files and its the same thing.

  • What OS are you using? You can set mime types or you can find a GUI in most distros. You can then set the file to download and open with your torrent client.

That said, you can update your Opera to the newest version as well. It's not in your repo, that's the old version. You can get the new version, install the .deb package, and then it will automatically update itself to the newest versions if you tell it to - it adds the ppa.

    New version here:
    http://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/desktop/

Find the most recent build. Open it. Find the Linux folder. Open it. Grab/download the file.

  • Linux Mint 17.

I updated opera a few yrs ago and lost all bookmarks, notes, etc, so that has made me reluctant to do it again. Although you are right of course.
