      Also, how can you move a folder/bookmark into another folder via opera://bookmarks? Can I force opera://bookmarks to display as a tree, so I can do some bookmark maintenance? This is all very modern and great looking, but it seems I can't do very much with it. Oh for the days of good old fashioned bookmarks like in an ancient version of Firefox! I think all this progress has gotten us nowhere in terms of basic functionality.

      I use my computer for work, and need to maintain and use a complex tree of bookmarks. How can I do this in the current opera://bookmarks interface?

        Answer to first post: For me, the heart dialog appears when I click ctrl+D, where I can choose folder. Please try this again with the latest version of Opera Beta (31).

        Answer to second post: In Opera Beta (at least in version 31) you can enable an experimental flag to display a tree at the side. Go to this page: opera://flags/?search=tree#trees-in-bookmarks, and click "Enabled", and restart opera. Caution! When you test these kind of features I recommend you to not be logged in with your normal sync account, as it may become broken in different mysterious ways.

          in v30.0.1835.59 , ctrl D only brings up 6 folders - not all of them. not the folder that I know exists in 'bookmarks'.
          does this mean I have to go to a beta version for bookmark saves to work normally as anyone would expect?
          (really?) is this a newly added feature?

            @gustavwiz:

            I am running 31.0.1889.16.

            Re: Post 1:

            When I click Ctrl+D, a confusing dialogue pops up with only one folder visible ("Unsorted bookmarks") and at the top of it, it says "Added to bookmarks" (I assume this means that the current page has been saved, but I have no idea where. Has it been saved in a folder called "Unsorted bookmarks"?).

            If I click on "Unsorted bookmarks", three more (random) folders are displayed ("Bookmarks bar", "Reading list", and one random one of my own; no idea where it is stored), plus a "+New Folder" folder creator.

            I have tried EVERYTHING in this dialogue, but there is NO way to navigate around my bookmark folders in order to select the correct place to save the page I’m trying to bookmark.

            Whatever this dialogue is supposed to be for, it is a mystery to me. I can't get to do do anything.

            Thanks, that worked. I now have a tree, which ought to be standard IMO. Indispensable for getting anything done.

              I have found two extensions (see below) that allow me to navigate through my bookmark folder structure in order to add a new bookmark.
              However, they both have terrible interfaces and present you with a completely flat representation of your bookmark folder structure, making it very hard to see what is what.

              Is there really no way to do this in Opera itself?

                There are couple of bookmarks extensions, one of them is mine, V7 Bookmarks
                here's quick vid how can you save bookmarks, from right-click menu or dragging links onto it... anywhere on bookmarks tree

                  @vux777:

                  Excellent, thanks! I have just installed your extension "V7 Bookmarks" and it works great.

                  I’m still amazed at how the Opera development team have completely destroyed normal bookmark functionality in the latest versions of Opera. Pressing Ctrl+D is completely broken, but it's as if they haven’t even noticed. I’m going to disable the shortcut, as I never want to see that confusing dialogue that pops up when you press Ctrl+D again.

                    This is absurd! It should be so easy to simply bookmark a page and choose which folder you want it to appear in. This used to work in Opera! Now I only see a bunch of folders that are NOT mine even though the title is "My Folders." Who knows where Opera saves the bookmark to - I have not been able to figure out where. I ditched Chrome in favor of Opera because it is lighter, but now I cannot save any new bookmarks. I will try the suggestions above but it is so absurd that the Opera developers cannot include a functional bookmark option in the latest versions!

                      I gave up on Opera a few months ago, and am back on Chrome. The new Opera is just too minimalistic and full of holes. Bookmarks are basic functionality guys!

                        Bookmarks in Opera are very functional. Just use the heart button to add them and the bookmarks manager to access/manage them.

                          Check how they've remade the heart menu in the latest Opera beta. It's very nicely made.

                            The last time I gave Opera a try with a few years ago, I just recently gave it another shot since it has VPN and ad blocker. But for the life of me, how do you easily create a bookmark in a folder of your choice and with the URL of your choice??? I went to "Show all bookmarks" and selected the folder but there is apparently no way to create a bookmark. This is mind-bogglingly absurd!

                              Go to the page you want to bookmark, click on the heart button, select the thumbnail picture and the folder to the bookmark to be placed in.

                                Thanks for the response but that's what I want to avoid doing. Having to actually load a page is an extra step that should be unnecessary. What if I have a file containing a list of URLs? For each URL, I would have to copy the URL, load the page, click on the heart icon, select folder, etc. VERY inefficient. Instead, you should be able to create a new bookmark in the "Show All Bookmarks", directly in the folder of choice. Not being able to do that is very big oversight IMO.
