hey,
I have the option enabled that opera does continue there where it got closed but if I close Opera via the x button all open tabs will be gone if I open Opera again. If I close it via right click on the opera icon in the dock it works fine.

This is because you don't close Opera, but the current window; therefore Opera has no tabs to start up from next time. Close Opera with Command+Q, over the menu, or over the dock etc., without closing any tabs/windows beforehand. This way your session will be remembered for the next time you start the program.

Okay, do you know if it is possible to close opera completely if I click on the X to prevent my issue?

There's an application called RedQuits that claims to do that. I haven't tried it myself, but here it is: http://www.carsten-mielke.com/redquits.html
Let us know if it worked

Let us know if it workedYep this application works but unfortunately it does it for all applications and I only want it for opera. Might be an idea to add this to opera or as a option.

I have this same problem as well on Opera beta v36 on Windows 10 via Skylake... It is really annoying when my other PC's (X58 and Z87) restore my session after I close the program and restart my PC.

@urbanman2004, your problem is not related to what's being discussed here, since this is a feature of the Mac operating system, OS X. You might want to try in the Windows forum.
