At the moment (touch wood!) all the sites that I use regularly still work in Opera 12.17.
How long this will be the case is anyone's guess, but I'm still not ready to abandon the browser quite yet.
I don't think there will ever be a browser which will completely replace it, but when the time comes I'll have to look at the current status of Opera, Vivaldi, Otter, and yes Firefox, Chrome and IE too, and make that difficult decision.
As a webmaster I keep all those browser installed anyway for testing purposes, but deciding which will be my personal future default browser will be difficult indeed.

If one is not satisfied with some equipment it's a better choice to try some other things. Like if I only have trouble with my car I would rather get rid of it.
Life is to short to go around and be angry.
Give Opera 33 a new chance.

Opera 12 was great, it was unique. This new one is a pretty good Chrome clone, but not good as 12.

Opera 12 (i.e. Presto) is d-e-a-d. Deal with it and move on. Continuing to use such a dated browser is foolish for a variety of reasons. Firefox, Chrome and Opera are perfectly good CURRENT browsers that are all updated on a regular basis and secure. This nonsense regarding a dead browser has been going on far too long. I'm surprised the moderator(s) allow this. I thought the forums existed to help people use Opera. A thread like this one contributes nothing to that end.

Opera 12 is certainly not dead. Injured, but not dead. Dead means cannot perform any functions whatsoever, forever. There are some sites that do not work properly anymore but it is no where near 50%,, the internet has not changed that much in a few years.
If some of us still prefer to use old opera it has no consequences for the users of other browsers. Kinda like driving a classic car or something like that

There are still people crying about the passing of OS/2 and the Amiga OS. I'm sure we'll have people coming here to cry about Opera 12 for years to come.

I still infrequently use a browser dating from the mid-1990's (Off-By-One) for primarily text-only browsing at sites that are heavily textual. By modern standards, it's a primitive browser - but it's breathtakingly fast (as in: virtually instant) when loading a website on a modern computer. It has almost no modern-user 'creature comforts', but it works well for what it still does when I need it. However, I'd certainly never rely only upon it for my regular browsing - for that, I've got 6 other browsers installed, a couple of which are used primarily, according to the kind of browsing I need to do.
The point is simply that there's no reason on earth why one HAS to use only a single browser. Nevertheless, when one continues primarily using an old browser, he should expect to pay the corresponding toll for it - namely, increasingly limited useability on modern websites (especially graphics-rich and script-driven ones) and decreasing knowledgeable support for any problems encountered. Olde Opera users still come here with problems, since they have almost no other place to go, but the numbers and experience-base of users able to help will only continue to decline.

Indeed, if a site I want to use doesn't work in Opera 12.17 (usually it's forms not submitting in my experience) I just open the site in another browser that does work, no big deal.
As long as Opera 12.17 interfaces with my Internet Security software and I'm fully firewalled, I don't have any great security concerns either.
Perhaps I'm being complacent, but I'm not losing any sleep over it yet!

Opera Presto is "essentially" dead. You can play word games all you like and keep using it as though nothing has happened. Heck, if you want to you can download Netscape 7 and Netscape 8 and pretend it isn't dead either since it will still work (especially NS 8 which has a dual engine and the IE portion will continue to render many pages that the NS engine will no longer render). Be that as it may, only a fool would continue to use such an old browser as NS and sooner or later the same will exist for Opera Presto. Better to move over to a current, UPDATED, secure and SUPPORTED browser rather than pretend Opera Presto is still usable as it was three years ago.

Seriously @restinpieces. I've had to give up on paid for software (some very expensive) in the past as the software was either rebuilt from scratch and effectively become useless for my needs or had ceased altogether. You learn not to bitch about it but to move on to something else. Opera is a free browser. Get over your sorry self.

I've been using Opera since ver 6 came out. I don't like the post 12 versions, they just don't work for me, the way Opera 12.x does.
Opera 12.17 nothing compares; it was not broken...Opera 33: it's about as useful as teats on a boar.
I'd pay for an updated browser that functioned like Opera 12.x

It's a great shame that Opera 12 is dying. But comments such as "get over it" and "move on" don't cut the mustard. The current Opera, the current Chrome, the current "any other browser" do not have the functions that Opera 12 had.Do the Opera staff require payment for a resurrection? If so, count me in for a few dollars more........

Opera Presto will not receive updates neither will come back. Also, Opera Blink will not clone (all) Opera Presto's features. There are alternative browsers that try to mimic Opera Presto and everyone is free to try them.
That said, there is no meaning in keeping topics like this.
