They work in Chrome on the same system.
Here's an example of one, all I see in Opera is a black screen.

Works fine here with Opera Stable. Clear you cache and try it with extensions disabled.

Same here. It says, "This browser does not support video play back."
I didn't have any problem before, but it started happening just a few days ago.http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/video/federer-upends-djokovic-for-seventh-cincinnati-title
That video doesn't work for me on Opera, either.
My Opera's up to date, buuuuut I'm still using Windows Vista...
Could that be the reason? I just want to know, so I can either accept it and move on, or do something about if if there's any other reason. :^( -

No extensions, cleared cache, no change.
OS is Windows 7 Pro 64bit with SP1 (and all the other OS updates).
Opera is version 31.0.1889.174.
The same videos work in Chrome and Firefox.

Opera needs Windows 7 or higher to play patent-encumbered media (MP4 with H.264, MP3...)
OS is Windows 7 Pro 64bit with SP1 (and all the other OS updates).
Then I'm not sure what has been causing this for you. Is it the N version perhaps?

Any solution?
Happens on both my laptops, Win7 on one and Win10 on the other, updated Opera 31 on both laptops but some embedded HTML5 videos, FaceBook, news sites is just showing a black box.
Youtube is working though... -

As has been said, you need to have a codec installed in your system to play these types of videos. Download a free codec from somewhere and install it.

Sure, let me get my spoon out so I can feed it to you. No, no, don't try and google search for it yourself, you might pull a muscle. Open your mouth wide...

I do in fact have ffdshow installed.
But thanks for the spooning, it was fun.

So these videos are still busted for me in version 32.0.1948.69
The video in my first post works in Chrome, Firefox and IE11(!) too.

So an interesting wrinkle to this issue is that SOME videos on twitter do work.
This one for instance does, however the one in my original post still does NOT work on my laptop.
