I dont seem to be able to find a linux section. So, I'll just ask it here.
My Opera version is 28.0 and I cant export, import bookmarks. Why is that? There is no option to do that. I have downloaded an addon, but it only exports bookmarks...it doesnt import them.

Opera will normally import bookmarks from an older version of Opera automatically. If you go into the Menu and select "More tools" you should see an option to import.
The latest stable version of Opera is 30, if you have some Debian/Ubuntu based version of Linux you should update to the latest Opera.

It should be under main menu (Opera button in upper left corner)>settings>browser>default browser. There should be a button under where it lists Opera as your default browser. A pop-up window will ask you where to import the bookmarks from. I usually go to the start page to retrieve the imports from there. It's at the bottom of the start page (Speed Dial, Bookmarks, Discover, etc...) with the heart icon. Just click on that and you should see the imported bookmarks button on the left panel. It will show your imports in a folder on that page. This is in the latest version of Opera 30.

Someone had posted a similar comment in the Windows forum earlier today and it was closed already. Apparently you need an extension to export bookmarks which I find very disappointing. How hard is it to have a function to export to an html or xml (whatever it uses) file?
I just saw someone suggest V7 Bookmarks extension and I tried it.

I'd like to export them...not to import them. What you have explained is basically how to transfer your bookmarks from Opera to another browser, but I need it for security purposes. I need a backup of them which is an option not given in Opera (v. 33)

Hi - I hope this isn't too big of a bump.
I just upgraded to vers 39 Opera (in Linux Mint 17 - 64 bit) and ran into the same thing. An export Bookmarks addon will export them but loses the folder hierarchy.
I did copy the bookmarks.adr file in my Home folder (the file is hidden - press control H to see them) to have that as a backup. NOTE: I have not yet tried to restore the bookmarks from that file so I don't know for sure if it works. Still, that is the way I backup my email folders (and calendar) in Thunderbird... and that DOES work.
