Why can't I use Netflix on Opera?

Netflix uses Silverlight plugin and they do not provide 64bit version of it. Opera is 64bit software and would only work with 64 bit plugins.

However, we are working on an alternative plugin support widevine, which will be used instead of silverlight on pages like netflix. Please be patient

Opera 31 (currently in beta) and newer have a fix for this, although currently you need to identify as Chrome to be able to use it (since Netflix doesn't offer HTML5 video to Opera, we're talking to Netflix about fixing this).

To identify as Chrome, use an extension such as https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/user-agent-switcher-5/?display=en and select "Desktop -> Chrome" while you're on the Netflix site.

You can now try this with the Opera developer stream (Opera 32) from http://blogs.opera.com/desktop/. There is no need for changing your user agent identification or downloading any extensions. Netflix is finally back!

I also had problems using a mexican goverment site (cfdiau.sat.gob.mx/nidp/wsfed/ep) that also use Silverlight. To do the formalities I can use Opera, but to certify them I should use Firefox explorer. Please solve Silverlight compatibility.

@gcortesv Silverlight compatibility can't be "solved": Opera is a 64-bit browser, it can't work with the 32-bit Silverlight plug-in. Microsoft has stopped development on the Silverlight web plugin, they're not releasing new versions anymore.
