Opera sucks big time, no wonder it only has 1.38% of market share

I tried Opera long time ago and didn't go with it because it didn't - and still doesn't - have an option to automatically clear cache and history upon exit, only FireFox has it.
Then I tried it again a couple of months ago and I was pleasantly surprised with a cool speed dial, the way it handles media and the speed overall, it became my fave browser despite it's appetite for CPU.
But since recently I am not able to access secure sites like google, gmail, facebook.
Why do you people concentrate on making it nice looking, and adding, improving features if you can't make it work to access basic, the most popular websites? I'm using FF to post this because Opera apparently can't even access Opera website. It works one day, the following day it doesn't and I'm just fed up with it.

So... are you asking for help with your Opera problem or simply venting frustration because your browser isn't working? I ask because millions of Opera users aren't experiencing the problem you describe, else the forum here would be literally flooded. Hence, the cause of your problem may more likely revolve around your installation, its settings, its extensions (if any), or some other system or ISP conflict.

Apart from what BlackBird already said...
But since recently I am not able to access secure sites like google, gmail, facebook.
What exactly is the error you're getting, if any, and how does it manifest itself? Because, as said, it sounds more like an issue caused by - I assume - local settings than Opera. For example; I'm using Opera right now and as you can probably see this website also uses encryption. Google (I get redirected to Google.nl but still...) also poses no problem for me. So it can't be Opera itself. Note: I use the latest stable version (29) for Windows.

I'm totally agree with blackbird71. Most of the problems people are experienced with Opera is because of extensions, twisted settings, old operating systems, firewall, antivirus program...., and NOT the Opera browser itself.
I have used the "new" Opera browser since it's release and can't remember I've had any problem to write about. It works crisp and clear day after day, month after month, and I would not even think about changing my browser to FF, IE, Chrome or other stuff.
So, if people are having some problem with Opera browser, they should write about what the problem is, what is their OS, and if they use any extensions or other fancy thing.
Then they will get help from this forum.

Mostly venting my frustration because I tried everything like disabling my firewall and antivirus. Secure sites will work for say a week and then all of a sudden they become inaccessible, it just says the webpage unavailable as if there is no internet connection whatsoever. I have never experienced anything like this with any other browser i.e. FF, IE, Safari, or and Chrome does that too once in a while. So if other browsers are working fine then the problem is with Opera. And I have no extensions installed there at all. I also tried uninstall and install again several times, same cr*p.

Nope, I never used it. Since Opera is using Chrome engine now (?) I went to Chrome forums and found a solution there. I deleted the Certificate Revocation List from Users->....->Opera Stable. Now I can access all secure websites except Opera Forums (!) So old FF is to the rescue. So people need to get their act together. Forget about making it pretty, features, making big letters instead of screenshots in the speed dial (what's wrong with screenshots anyway?) and just focus on making it work all the time juse like FF and making it less voracious for CPU and if they can do that, you will get 5-10% of the market share in no time. Despite solving the problem Im going back to FF.

Sorry, I don't have any of the problems you seem to be having. I've generally found the issues (unique to Opera) I've had were fixable with a bit of help from the forums/web searching. Some of them were relating to issues with plugins. It's probably better to ask in the forums for help rather than just rant at Opera - it's possible it isn't a bug in the browser.

For the speed dial, you have a choice of what you want to display, and that includes screenshots/thumbnails. I mostly show the thumbnails in my speed dial.

I used the Opera browser for over 10 years. I no longer use it. I don't like the browsers I'm using (FireFox and Chrome), but I continue to use them regardless, because it's better than the pain of trying to use the post version 12 Opera browsers.
I learned a long time ago that you can give your customers practically anything, but you can't later take it back, and expect your customer to be happy. In your case it is worse, because the 'anything' was quite excellent.
I keep checking back in once in a while to see if things have improved. Other than finally adding a bookmark capability, they have not.
Instead of continuing to lead (remember when everyone stole your creative ideas?), you have decided to copy the look of the market share leaders (FF, Chrome), and you have created something that is still (after what, 2 or more years?) not as capable as what you abandoned.

Go away and be happy with your new browser. No one really cares what you think of Opera. Millions of others love it and that's all that matters. And... it's getting better every day.

I am writing this comment out of pure despair.
I have followed this thread and there seems to be some people here with insight. I have one question to all of you that is on the positive side (me included except for the following):
How on earth is it possible to get in contact with Opera if you have a problem with your account?
There is no "help-link" and if you call them they can only tell you to go to this forum site.
Is there a law or something that it must be possible to get in contact with a public service provider?
I have posted a thread about my problem, but nobody is answering. Does that mean nobody from the staff are in here?
I need to change my mail address because the old one will stop working, and when typing in my new address I am told that the new mail is already connected to another account?????? What then? A tech person would for sure find out what is wrong, but it might be easier to get in contact with Elvis....or the big Man himself -

Still, I can see where you're coming from, also because someone else sort off 'revived' the thread. Even so...

The forums are are a community effort for the most part. So it's very well possible that no one knew the answer or your thread didn't got noticed. Either case most of this is based on best effort.

Well, the meaning should be obvious: it seems another account is already using that address. Are you sure that you didn't open a new Opera account already somewhere in the past?
The FAQ about Opera accounts is pretty clear on the matter; when you de-activate an account then you got 7 days to re-activate it, after that it will be gone. However, this also means that if you deleted an account and are now trying to use details from it (like the e-mail address) you'd first have to wait for 7 days before the account gets really removed, after that happens you can use these details. Not before...

Thank you for answering Shelluser. I know I am off topic, but I tried to force a response.
You just confirmed my fears. It is not possible to contact Opera. It is a pity.
If I end my account and wait for 7 days, what will I loose?
Answer this and I promise to keep out of this thread. -

Most of us are not exactly customers.
For one, I haven't paid Opera ASA a penny so far. Nor have I paid Google, Mozilla, Adobe, or any other tech guys.
I'm a user.Well, I did pay Microsoft somehow - now they abandon my XhiP, and no way to upgrade as it seems for now. Though this is another story*:)*

joshl makes a good point. We are users but not customers. Opera has provided software that we are free to use (although it is not ours nor will it ever be ours) or to find other software that meets our needs. Had we actually paid for the browser, it might make a difference but that is not the case. I find it a bit disingenuous when we "tell" Opera how to make their browser and some go as far as to threaten to leave it for another browser. The bottom line is this: Opera will do whatever is in their best interests in terms of growing the business. And the business "is" growing well so if a few "old" or "former" disgruntled users are upset with the direction Opera has chosen to take, that is their prerogative and that is life. We need to deal with it and move on.

In what way is the business growing? I looked at the stats recently and the user numbers seem to be the lowest since they first started. I suppose there is some other measure tho, still possible they making more money I suppose

Some disgruntled users and ex users. I have used opera for a long time now.The feature sets are what I like and use. If you know how to use it. It should work well for you. I am using both the beta and stable versions in 4 machines. Win 7, Win8.1, Linux Mint 17.1. What I like the most is I can pretty much replicate everything instantly in another machine.
I am running into a problem with Windows 10 preview where Korean fonts are not displaying properly.

My first time using this browser, been using IE ever since '99, but I thought I'd give it a try on Opera. I'm happy with it so far. Just my 2 cents. I don't consider myself a customer, but if I am one, I'm a happy one at least for now.
