      Hi all,

I'm just going to set this as an announcement for a week so that people that do not have access to Google Play can get a chance to find our beta. Any beta version of Opera for Android released on GP will also be available through this link at the same time starting with the current beta released a few weeks ago.

hello.....opera doesn't have inbuilt YouTube player. and file manager and QR SCANNER and screenshot options. and many more...........why opera size is greater than 5 mb. .......Uc has all features and size is also less (15mb) ..... why opera has large size. ...It consumes large data when installing. ..so plz decrease size........

I don't normally comment on other companies products, but I can try to explain the difference since you ask.

I think UC web uses an older fork of WebKit as in pre Chromium and Blink. How it's kept up to date I can obviously not answer. That means they are running in single-process mode and it probably also means they do not have the same modern tile renderer as Chromium has.

We care a lot about our users security at Opera and about having a highly performing piece of software. Even though we do what we can to reduce install size, we will always prioritize those two factors over size.

If size is all you care about then I can recommend the new Opera Mini which is a 2.8MB install.

Opera Mini is not a full browser as it depends on Opera's servers to display the pages.

This is the main reason for it to have a small installer size.

@leocg gave the short version but here goes. Opera Mini is what we refer to as a "proxy browser". Our servers download the webpage, reformat it, throws some "unnecessary" things away, compress it and send a very compact format out to the phone. In the process a lot of content also breaks, because that's the trade off it uses to be able to compress so well. It can handle some javascript, but any advanced javascript, webaudio, webrtc, webgl, css animations all the goodies we've come to expect of modern pages are not going to work. For many people, that's all they want though... to read the news, read articles and surf on regular web pages.

Opera for Android on the other hand uses the latest version of Chromium and have all of the latest and greatest features of the web, including an advanced multiprocess architecture to keep you safe from malicious content on the web.

I hope that answers your question...there are a lot of differences between Opera Mini and Opera for Android.
