      To enable fraud and malware protection, Opera confirms all visited sites with sitecheck2.opera.com.

      Similar to the unique ID for auto-updates, the submission of crash logs, Opera Turbo, Discover, and synchronization features, this needs to be documented in your EULA and privacy policy.

          What are those EULAs

          End-User Lincence Agreement.

          why are they needed?

          They are the licence that you agrre with when start using a software. It says, for example, if the software will collect personal data, if you can install in more than one machine and so on.

            this needs to be documented in your EULA and privacy policy.

            I guess it may be covered by item 7.9 of EULA.

                  Are they stored as files on the system?
                  I have some place here crapped by such - and no idea how they occurred.

                      @joshl:

                      EULA and privacy policy, which identical to section 7 of the EULA, can be accessed from Opera menu - About Opera. Opera Installer also requires you to accept them, although most users carelessly skip through this part.

                      Allow me to point out that properly documenting this phone home functionality, regardless of its purpose, is not a courtesy. Even if Opera is not concerned about the bad press this could generate, failing to do so is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

                      I have some place here crapped by such - and no idea how they occurred.

                      I have no idea what you are trying to communicate. You might wish to start a new topic.

                      @leocg:

                      7.6 is about sharing (or in this case not sharing) information with third-party sites. Opera Software is not a third party.

                        But the service is run by a third part.

                          What the heck are you talking about?

                          sitecheck2.opera.com obviously belongs to Opera Software ASA.

                          If another organization is supposed to be involved, who are they? What information does the browser or that Opera server send to them? What is their privacy policy?

                            The service is ran by AVG and Yandex afaik.

                            Don't know if there are others involved.

                              Apparently it's unclear and perhaps it can be good to point out that data is sent to sitecheck2.opera.com.

                                Who do I need to contact to get a definitive answer?

                                Doesn't anyone from Opera Software take part in this forum?

                                  I don't think you will get one. You've made your suggestion and it may or may not be taken in consideration.

                                  Note that Opera Presto's EULA also do not mention it.

                                    Perhaps he should get a definitive answer. I'm not an expert in this area, but in the first post @gregorw wrote "this needs to be documented in your EULA and privacy policy." With needs, do you mean should or must by law? Because if it's in the last mentioned case, it is important.
