Yes, I just disabled all extensions and restarted Opera. The problem continues.

This is version 28.0.1750.40. When I first updated from version 27, a couple of days ago, the Speed Dial page appeared as shown in my screen shot. The wallpaper is a standard Opera background and worked fine in v. 27. If other users are not having this problem then I will have to try deleting Opera and re-installing.

Do you know a way to keep settings like bookmarks and passwords while installing a new Opera?

First of all, rename Opera's profile folder to force the creation of a new one so you can check if the problem also happens with a clean profile.

Yeah, it shouldn't be that short. Something is wrong.

Leogc, I'd like to follow your advice -- but where is Opera's profile folder? (win 7)

Go to the Opera menu and click About Opera, it says in there.

Right. I didn't know the entire "C:\Users\Office\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable" was the Profile, so I was looking for "Profile" in it. Uh, I'm better now.

I renamed it and restarted Opera and sure enough, the Google bar was wide enough. The only difference was that (in my version) I had removed all the thumbnails except the "+" box (which I can't remove). It seems that the search bar changes its width to span over the thumbnails.

I think this is a needless elaboration to the programming. Why does it have to change width?

                Thanks for your help.

It doesn't change, there was something wrong/corrupted in your profile that was causing the issue.

But I am using the same profile. And the bar does not now change width and is long enough. leocg, thanks for your patience and help.

Well, you said you renamed your profile folder. So you went back to the old one?

Anyway, the search bar does not change its size because of the thumbnails. Or shouldn't at least.

                        Yes. And now it works.

And you didn't change anything in your old profile? Interesting.
