Intermittant crashes - when run from terminal I get this message:

ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.

When opening Opera it seems to load 2x - the crash takes me to log in screen.

      Only since update to 27.0.1689.69

(Kubuntu does not have this problem).

BTW Any reason for flash still being at version ...305 when it should be:-

      Chrome (embedded), Chromium-based browsers - PPAPI 16.0.0.442

Not sure why, but I've been seeing several reports of crashes on XFCE lately ...

Opera is not able to update your system, make sure you update it in your package manager.

Seems to only run from terminal, when launching from icon(s) it crashes 9 times out of ten taking me back to log in screen). Damn strange.
Even stranger there are no problems on an older laptop also running Xubuntu 14.04.(Also 64 bit)
My older desktop is also fine.
Hopefully the next update will resolve this.
BTW. All systems totally up to date.

i suppose you're describing two different problems:

ATTENTION: default value of option forces3tcenable overridden by environment. I'd say this issue may be fixed in one of the preference pages.

When opening Opera it seems to load 2x - the crash takes me to log in screen. I've encountered this problem
myself, though not as frequently as you do. it occurs only after for some reason or other i messed around with the /tmp directory, where opera maintains several temporary subdirectories and files. my suggestion how to cope with the issue is as follows:

            • explicitly kill all opera processes: killall -9 opera
            • remove all .org.chromium.Chromium subdirectories from /tmp
            • try to start opera again

it might help to first gain root privileges, but since it's only the mortal users who browse the internet the subdirs on /tmp belong to them and thus can be accessed and deleted by them.

            hope this helps.

Hi, nope - no luck. I could of course submit the crash log, but where do I send it to ?

                hmm... that's odd.

perhaps STDERR tells something. try the following in a terminal window:

                opera 2>&1

and in case there's anything to see, post it here.

crash reports will be sent automatically, as far as i know.

Doesn't the bug report form tell you to email logs/screenshots/etc. to an email address, or was that only the old form? I don't believe automatic submission of crash reports works on Linux ... seems to me you could get it to work by setting an environment variable to your email address. I'll have to ask.

When opening from terminal there are no crashes, only when launching via icon click.

When opening and closing from terminal, all I get is ..

                    ~$ opera 2>&1
ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.
                    ~$

If I set launcher to start in terminal, icon click is OK.

better than nothing, though probably not the way it's supposed to work.

Now also with Kubuntu. Opera 28.0.1750.48

Note I have Kwallet disabled. Crash occurs randomly - about 1 out of 5 times. If not run from terminal crashes are more frequent.
