Searching in the individual forums seems to be impossible right now.
Searching using the search box on the right gives results from the overall forum.

There should be a function to further search with new criterias or else the forums will be flooded with duplicated discussions / threads.

To add onto that point, say if you were to search a word - example 'Stash'- it returns out results from the language specific forums as well.

It gives you results/discussions/threads that are in spanish even though I set English as my default language.

This could be another #2 function to look into.

          "Criteria" is already plural.
Right, like this section's now having a third thread about poor search. 😉

A third thread? Well that's because you can't properly search anymore. This is the result. People can't FIND an answer to their questions because of poor search options...

Are there any plans or effort started to improve the native forum search capabilities? Over and over, similar threads are begun because posters are unable to effectively search the forums beyond a handful of threads that may or may not even be related to their topic.

Get to it already, people! Google retrieves Operaforums' topics on the first page easily by a couple of keywords!

This does not really address the OP question. The Opera forum would benefit from better search capabilities and hopefully this will be addressed by those looking after its development.

Unacceptable answer! Googling "Opera tab stacking" returns exactly 1 Opera forum thread in the first 5 pages of hits.

Different Opera users are constantly coming to these Opera forums (because, after all, they are "Opera's" helps forums) with many of the same questions... and very often, the best answers to those questions already exist in older threads somewhere in Opera's own forums. But the Opera 'forum search' itself currently has, to be overly generous, only 'mediocre' search/retrieval intelligence... and if the thread is more than a month or so old, forum search often fails to recognize it's even there. There are multiple bygone threads in which I've participated that I am unable to retrieve via the forum search - threads I know exist, because I saved and used my own links to them for a time.

And searching the forum threads by "title" simply is unworkable because only about 1 in 10 threads (again being over-generous) has a comprehensive and accurate title that is useful later for searching. Moreover, some of the best answers to one topic can at times be found in a thread dealing with a somewhat different topic (eg: a good idea for grouping tabs may be found in a thread asking about tab stacking).

                      Yeah.

I did think about why would mods not edit some good threads/discussions' titles in order to get them found easier?
                      Just thinking.

It really isn't the job of the moderators to address this search function issue. The developers who worked on this forum should consider further development of the search function capabilities. With a decent Search function a lot of duplicate threads could be reduced and the forum would become more productive.

Well, but while they should, why not us, users, report good threads, and when some get a number of requests, a mod could pin it.
And edit the title, if needed.

Pinned threads are not possible at the moment (if ever), Only announcements are pinned.

Actually, Joshl had a good suggestion. It's too bad it can't be implemented. 😞

Having a large number of pinned topics may not be very helpful imho. Something like this FAQ would be more useful.

Or maybe there could be a way to sort topics/posts by votes.
