Yesterday I barely upgraded to Opera 22.0.1471.70 from the 20.0.1387.91 that I had been using before.

Now every time in the middle of booting up, I get an error window informing me that --- Opera Internet Browser has encountered a problem and needs to close. Once I get that window out of the way and log in onto my AOL Dial Up and then bring up that Opera 22.0.1471.70, it appears to work fine.

So, what's up with that error message? WHY would that Opera 22.0.1471.70 even come up with that error message that it needs to close when at that time, Opera has not even been brought up since it is the friggin' middle of the boot up? Has anyone else gotten this error message? Is it something common to this Opera 22.0.1471.70? I already uninstalled and reinstalled this Opera 22.0.1471.70 last night and that error at boot up remains. Any insight? Is it something the Devs will fix on the next version?

I am using Windows XP Pro SP3 just in case that makes a difference.

Run "msconfig" and look at the "startup" tab.
Is there anything relating to Opera there?
If so, remove the check from it and see if the startup error goes away.
If it does, and everything else seems to be working fine, you can probably safely delete the entry altogether.
        🙂

What is your cpu? Does it support sse2? Starting from 22, Opera supports only cpus with sse2.

Heyyyyy, good call ... great call, Dave!
BAMM! That was it. You hit the nail on the head. It was the Opera AutoUpdate being active over in the Opera scheduled tasks. That's weird that that would be active, considering that since the get go when I installed this Opera, I had already done that under the hood Frankensteinizing bit about renaming the AutoUpdate file so it wouldn't attempt to autoupdate. And yet there it was trying to update.

It's also odd that I didn't encounter this situation with Opera 20.1387.91, but it manifested itself in Opera 22.0.1471.70.

Anyway, thanks for the solution, Dave.

Leo, I'm not familiar with that sse2, but my computer has a Pentium 4 processor. DOES a Pentium 4 have that sse2 capability?
