Can't set Google search default language, please help (for Opera 12.17)

In the Search tab in Opera preferences, I've set Google (in edit - details) address to be Google.com like this:
http://www.google.com/search?q=%s&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest
And in opera:config under User Prefs, I've made sure Google TLD Default is set like this:
.google.com
Now this used to work fine for years, but after updating to 12.17 from 12.16 it's not and Google now insists on showing me the local language (local Google) of the location I'm at which is a real PITA.
Any way to get this working properly?

Yay, it seems to work! Thank you so much.
For reference, I added &/en at the end of the string I posted above.

By chance I found what might be an even better way as the previous just went to Google.com and didn't necessarily show only English results, but adding &lr=lang_en will do both.
So now the string looks like this:
http://www.google.com/search?q=%s&lr=lang_en&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest
