What do you want to do with the bookmarks exactly ?. Import them into Opera ?, export them from Opera, Convert them into a format that Opera can read ?, or convert them from an Opera format to another format that can be read by another browser ?.
What format are they currently in ?, or where (what software) were they originally created ?.

Compass versions were released from 1997 through 2002 (Win95-XP) by Softgauge, and were advertised as being compatible with older Opera versions (through 5.x) as well as IE (through 6) and Netscape; it's still available from shareware sites. I believe it was designed to interface in some way with the native file-types supported by those various browsers at that time, though it appears to have maintained its own file sets for usage and in at least some cases, required the user to set the browser to use Compass's own file for its bookmarks file.
Depending on where you intend for the data from Compass to end up, it may be necessary to install an old version of Opera (I'm not sure how far back you might have to go to assure compatibility... you could try an Opera 11 version to start with - older versions than that may be harder to come by), export the Compass data to it, and then export/import from the old Opera version into whatever is your ultimate target. I doubt if the journal, notes, memos, etc features will transfer gracefully to the end target.
(edited to add: there supposedly is an Opera 5.0 version available at http://www.brothersoft.com/opera-247075.html )

You don't know where the archive site is? Opera's official archives go back to 3.21.

Hmm. I used to have it bookmarked, and apparently I lost it somewhere along the way... it wasn't in my subfolder of "Opera downloads", so I figured the archives might have gone away along with some of the MyOpera sites. Thanks for the reminder... and it's now back in my bookmarks.
