@ljfried happens on opera gx as well, disable the built-in opera ad-blocker. If you use another adblock extension like Ublock it will still work.

thank you very - just not sure why this has happened so suddenly - did the NY Times do something to their website?

@Loquality Thanks I disabled the Opera ad blocker and the nyt now workers. I don't like ads and if the ads increase I'll go back to Safari. Not a word from Opera or nyt. Rather disappointing.

@DocMLorenzoM can you explain to me -- as simple as possible!! -- how I disable the Opera ad blocker? Thank you.

SO, it turns out you need to turn off Opera's ad blocker. Oddly, unlike other sites, the NYTimes does not pop up a notice to turn off adblockers.

And to get around the painfully intrusive adds, use Opera's built in reader mode. (at the right in your search bar.) Now someone give me back the hours I have wasted trying to figure this out.

@ljfried I would guess that it is a new update by the NYT. Many websites have been adding features that will disable content if certain adblockers are detected.

As for disabling the blocker, there is a little shield in the website bar at the far right, between a camera and an arrow. Click on it and turn off "block ads".

Most likely a browser cache issue or an extension (especially an ad blocker/privacy tool) is suddenly conflicting with the New York Times website.

Try opening the article in a private/incognito window; if it works there, clear your browser cache or disable extensions one by one.

So I had an update to Tahoe on my Mac and iPhone, and then had a bunch of updates to other software in the past 36 hours including to Opera. NYT now works with ad blocker on and off. I've tried multiple articles with in both modes and haven't had an issue. I don't know what setting I was in, or the level prior to the updates, but I would be interested to know if we were all using Opera Air and if it was for Mac.
