Please, let me choose Google as a Default search engine. For me, its Yandex and in settings there is no Google. I don't want to add "g/" or some other microsolution to get google search, I want Google to become default search engine. How to do that?

@AKELA21 Only possible fix would be to make Opera think that you are on a place where Google is one of the pre-defined search engines.
Editing the information for country and country from server on Local State file used to work, but I don;t know if it's still valid.

Couldn't a functionality be added where you can create a custom search engine and set it as default? Like it works for example in Vivaldi? For a browser that's marketed as private and safe for data, both Opera and OperaGX lack this functionality, which is a shame, especially considering the fact that it is present in other private browsers, such as previously mentioned Vivaldi and Brave. Where can I make a suggestion for the dev team to add such an option?

@AKELA21 You likely have a region-locked version of the browser, so you'll need to edit the "Local State" file in your user data folder to force Google back as an option.

@IbrahimKhalil786 hi, yes, I did that. It was working in the past, but after I reinstalled the Opera GX and did the same thing, it didn't work. I think they patched it and I don't want others to try to reinstall Opera GX and do the same to check whether it was fixed.

@leocg it is and it is logical, but not adding other popular search engines like Google as a pre-set search engine and not allowing to add it by ourself and set it as a default engine is a bad move. Noone uses Russian search engine Yandex. It is simply the worst and locking it in browser, damn. No words. If devs are not here and they will leave it like that, then bye bye OperaGX. I was defending that browser, but can't anymore. Maybe allegations about this browser were true.

@AKELA21 Ah, that’s annoying. Just to be sure—did you check Task Manager to make sure every Opera process was killed before editing? Sometimes it silently overwrites your changes if a background process is still running. If you did that and it still failed, yeah, they might have patched it.
