@Chi-oma Following your useful instructions, I switched off the toggle; the information I received on doing this reads: "Turn this experiment on or off. Turning this off does not disable AI overviews in Search outside of Labs."

Any other suggestions?

@Halfabee Yeah, it looks like Opera recently enabled Google’s AI Overviews by default. It’s part of Google’s search changes, not Opera directly. To remove it, try adding &udm=14 at the end of your search URL — that forces classic results. Or switch to a different search engine like DuckDuckGo if it gets too annoying.

Also is the feature not bad.
And why do you complain about a website feature in Google in your browser forum?

@Chi-oma Firstly, I apologise; I'm new to this forum and claerly don't understand how it works, or to read it. My fault completely.

In answer to your question: It's easy to turn off the toggle button when following the instructions to do so in Labs, but in fact this does not turn off the 'AI' overview acting when one - or I - do Google searches after this. Rather, when I turn off the toggle switch in Labs, a small 'window' pops up which says that doing so will not stop the overview appearing during Google searches - which left me wondering what function the toggle-switch has if it doesn't do what it seems to offer.

And apologies again if I offended you.

Opera isn’t doing anything special here—it’s just loading Google’s search results as-is, and Google has recently started pushing AI Overviews by default, which is why you’re suddenly seeing them; sadly there’s no official “off” switch yet, but you can reduce or avoid them by staying logged out of Google, switching to the Web tab instead of All, adding to your search URLs, or simply changing your default search engine to something like DuckDuckGo or Startpage if you’re fed up with this forced feature...

Opera is simply displaying what Google now embeds directly into its Search results as “AI Overviews,” so it’s not actually an Opera feature but part of Google’s own interface—meaning you can’t fully remove it from the browser side; the only practical workarounds are changing your default search engine in Opera settings, using a custom search URL parameter that filters experimental features, or switching to an alternative search provider if you want completely AI-free results...

Opera shows the Google AI Overview because it’s a feature coming from Google Search itself, not the browser. Since Opera uses Google as the default search engine, the AI summary automatically appears at the top of some results. Unfortunately, there isn’t a direct setting in Opera to remove it. The only practical options are to change your search engine (for example to DuckDuckGo or another provider), use browser extensions that filter AI results, or add parameters like &udm=14 to Google searches to force classic results. Otherwise, the AI Overview will continue to appear because it’s controlled by Google’s search interface rather than Opera...
