      Hi @burnout426,

My opera GX does the same thing, though through this thread i found out it's one of the plugins. Whenever i launch with "C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera GX\opera.exe" --disable-extensions, Opera launches perfectly fine. Where can i find my extensions folder to delete some to find out which one is causing trouble?

@ShadowMine The extensions are in the roaming folder in appdata at least for my OperaGX in C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable\Extensions. Thats where my extensions are listed.

@Michlee thanks! Though it does appear that it's an extension that comes with Opera GX that seems to be corrupt. I got rid of every single one and it still freezes, obviously the ones that come with the browser always re apear in the folder. I am only able to use it through the cmd command, it works but i just hate ads lol.

I tried to reinstall, which hasn't helped.

@ShadowMine Since a standalone installation works fine, there might be something more than the extension folders you have to delete in your profile folder for your regular Opera GX installation. Not sure what though. You can copy your "Opera GX Stable" folders to make backups. Then, you can try deleting other things in the Opera GX Stable" folder until Opera GX quits freezing.

You can try deleting the "Local extension settings" folder, the "IndexedDB" folder, the "Session Storage" folder, the "Web Storage" folder, the "Local Storage" folder, the "Extension rules", "Extensions state" and "Extension scripts" folders. You get the idea.

If none of those, it might be the "Preferences" file or the "Local State" file or the "Secure Preferences" file.

It could be the "Sync Data" folder. Something.

Wen you're done testing and find the culprit, you can delete those new "Opera GX Stable" folders, rename the old ones back, make new backups of the folders and then just delete the file or folder that fixed it. Depending on what file or folder it is, you might lose some things, but that's why you back up the folders.

@burnout426 took me some time to get back to it but it ended up being the Local extension settings. Everything's fixed now!

@burnout426 ok I dont know what to do anymore it was working perfectly fine I had all my extensions minus one of them so I thought it was good to go and it was for however long it was since when I said it fixed up until yesterday when it stopped working.

The problem I still have too is I cant even tell which extension(s) are messing it up because when I delete them opera just re-installs every single one of them when I launch which I dont get why they do that.

Do you have any final recommendations for me like should I ditch that opera profile entirely or am I just trying to cope too much and should give up on opera😂

@Michlee Yes. In addition to deleting the "Extensions" folder in the profile folder, also delete the "Local Extensions Settings" folder to see if it helps. Some of Opera's built-in extensions will still show again in the "Extensions" folder when its recreated by Opera, so don't worry about that.

@burnout426 unfortunately I deleted both of these folders and then I launched it again and it did the same thing, both folders reappeared and the extensions did too.

Do you think its worth it to try uninstalling literally everything related to opera on my pc with a program like revo uninstaller or something then reinstall?

@Michlee I think it's worth renaming the "Opera GX Stable" to "Opera GX Stable old" in both "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software" and "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Opera Software" to test starting over with a fresh profile.

@burnout426 I do remember doing that earlier, I changed the name to Opera old and then started fresh which then worked so I thought it was good and that was the problem but then it stopped working all of a sudden.

So now I was thinking the whole thing is corrupted or I gotta restart fresh (the folder renaming) but then not sign in my account because maybe it's messed up or something ya know?

@Michlee Yeah, perhaps Sync is bringing something back in that is causing the issue. Syncing of settings would be my first guess.

@Michlee I would export your bookmarks (with open tabs saved as as speed dial folder) and passwords first just in case.

@burnout426 wait I dont know what I did wrong I renamed it to the old thing and it recreated the folder but when I launch opera again it loads up everything like how it was (including the freezing part) but when I renamed it last time it started fresh?

@Michlee Did you rename the "Opera GX Stable" folders or just the "Default" folders? The former is what you want. Also, you need to do it while Opera is closed (all processes closed in the Windows Task Manager).

If you do that, I don't see how it can bring everything back unless you then log into Sync.

@burnout426 ya I renamed the regular Opera folder and ya im pretty sure it was closed but I already just uninstalled opera (with user settings) and just started fresh with my bookmarked tabs and passwords and stuff and its working fine again (I haven't signed in yet) so we'll see how long that lasts I guess 😭
