@leocg No, I don't even have any payment cards registered on my opera account. The card in question is one of my google payment methods though. At first I thought the charge was related to my Google One subscription, which is the one and only active subscription I have, but that costs less than 2 bucks a month and I can see a record of each payment I made going back to the first so the mystery continues. When it opens I suppose I'll try contacting the credit card company.

@PerfectlyDreadful There are any chances that the notification is false?

          Hi PerfectlyDreadful,

It sounds like you're dealing with an unexpected charge from "GOOGLE *Opera Software." Here are a few steps you can take:

Check Google Account Purchases: Log in to your Google Account and check your purchase history (under "Google Play" or "Google Payments") to see if there are any associated transactions.

Opera Software: "Opera Software" is related to the Opera browser. It’s possible that this charge might be for a subscription or in-app purchase related to their services. You can also check your Opera account or app for any active subscriptions.

Contact Google Support: If you can’t find the charge or if it seems like a mistake, you can contact Google Support to dispute the charge and inquire about the purchase.

Contact Your Bank: If the charge was unauthorized, you may also want to contact your bank or credit card provider to report it and prevent any future attempts.

@leocg No, the text was not just a one-off. It came from the same number as all of the other declined transaction notifications I have received in the past. It seems like the charge would have gone through if I had had sufficient balance. Looks like being broke paid off for once. ha.

@kearawill1122 Hi, thanks for your reply. I have done all of those things, with the exception of contacting google and the credit card company. Mostly because I don't expect them to do much of anything to help and I know it will be a painful experience.

@PerfectlyDreadful When you buy something through Google, it's required that a PIN/Password is provided?

@leocg Are you asking me or telling me? the only things I commonly pay for using google pay are rides with uber or lyft. In those cases yes, I am always asked to confirm the purchase and the payment method before it will work.

@PerfectlyDreadful There is a ? on the end, so it was a question.

OK, so for one to buy something using your Google (Pay?) account, some kind of confirmation would be needed?

@leocg Presumably not if it were some piece of subscription based software.. They all love their scammy little automatic subscription initiations that you must agree to in order to access a "free" trial. That should be illegal, but I digress. Still racking my brain and apps list for any errant installs. The charge went through today too. 🤬

@PerfectlyDreadful Doesn't make sense to me, if you configure your Google Pay to require a PIN/Password/Whatever to confirm a payment, I guess that at least the first one should have to be confirmed,
