@burnout426 It shouldn't happen at all !! It's annoying and intrusive.

It can be stopped temporarily by renaming opera_gx_splash.exe but that's only until the next update - Opera's sloppy update process simply recreates a new version number folder with a new opera_gx_splash.exe but leaves the old version folders intact. Sloppy.

Currently looking for something else (besides Chrome, Ffox, Edge all of which are now jumping on the in-your-face trumpet fanfare bandwagon Lookit me, I've just updated myself

While not a fan myself of forced updates generally (I'd rather only be notified about an available update with the option to install the update when/if I elect to), it's not hard to imagine the user outcry if browsers updated themselves automatically without any kind of notification to the user that they did so. Sound supplies such notification.

@burnout426 Thanks for the reply. I'll have to wait for the next update and check the version number to see if it waits for version 105.0.x.x -- perhaps it only happens for "major version" updates, but it still happens way to often to make me happy.

Part of the problem is that I have three computers, each with two accounts, so for each update I have to have Opera blare at me four to six separate times (one computer has headphones all the time, so I only hear the garbage music if I happen to have the headphones on when I start Opera after an update).

But that's all part of the problem -- I never know when Opera is going to blare its stupid noise at me, so I'm not prepared, and then it makes noise at me (sometimes at 1 or 2AM) which is annoying.

I guess once I get the first blare, I probably should just go around to each of the computers and start Opera, but even that won't completely solve the problem because they don't seem to all update at the same time.

@blackbird71 -- yeah. Personally I figure that the wasted popup tab is bad enough, without the stupid music that is nothing but a waste of time and disc space. I acknowledge that the screen telling me about the update is probably essential -- especially since all the browsers like to occasionally change your settings without asking.

But I would really really really appreciate a setting to skip the damn trumpet blare or whatever that stupid noise is supposed to be.

@blackbird71 Nothing to do with the update process, per se. As a matter of fact, I like my browsers being 100% up to date immediately. It's the practice of the browser "brands" that is objectionable. Opera's forced use of the annoying splash screen and accompanying trumpet fanfare, to announce nothing more than what is expected - keeping the browser up to date. And even when it's disabled, it's thrown back at the user's face (and ears) with the next update. But that's all academic now, I've gone elsewhere and Opera can do without their advertising $$ from my usage.

I agree. This happened to me twice now and it was super scary. I'm uninstalling Opera due to this now. You can send me an email if this can be turned off permanently. Staying with Firefox for the time being. What a §$%&...

You'll get no argument about that from me. It's very annoying.

Please either create an option to disable it, or just get rid of it. It's random, and startling, and there's no point to it. I don't see or hear anybody saying "I like the random startup sound", but a lot of people are saying its annoying and they wish it would stop.

@msturtz The sound of the splash screen, that shows up only after a major update, has been disabled in Opera Developer.

It was still there in the last Opera update.

If it is gone now, that would be good, but I'll wait for the next update before I'm convinced that someone had the good sense to drive a stake through its heart.

The sound is gone in Opera Developer which is at version 112. So, unless Opera backports the change, the sound won't be gone in Opera Stable till Opera Stable reaches version 112. Stable is at version 110 right now. So, it'll be a bit.

Currently at 111.0.5168.43 which still has this worthless annoying and intrusive garbage, so I guess it will be just a few years and a few hundred more noisy starts before we may get rid of this idiocy.
