@alidarvish if you had Sync enabled in the other device, enable it in the new one.

When i switched to a new android phone I noticed that logging in my usual opera account was possible, but it took weeks until opera app requested my passphrase in order to sync my bookmarks and everything else, like you do when you log in to your account. I am happy that it worked in the end, since I was researching how I can get my passwords and bookmarks to my new device. Hope that helps. Hope that Opera will amend this, like you get asked your passphrase after logging in, in order to sync everything straight away.

@leocg I had synch setup on my other phone. Got a new phone and it wouldn't synch. Latest update and now it is wanting to synch and asking for my passphrase. I don't recall ever setting up a passphrase.
I found where I could reset my password and reset it. However I can not find where to reset my passphrase. This is such a disappointment. I prefer opera over every other browser I've ever used. But this little glitch sure does hurt my feelings. Can you help me out with where or what I should do? I had quite a few saved webpages and now nothing. Help.

@alidarvish said in Sync and back up:
How can I restore my data after changing my device?
Hey ..
To restore your data after changing your device:-
Backup: Ensure you have a backup of your data on the old device.
-
list itemSync: Install the app on the new device and log in to the same account.
-
list item Restore: Your data should sync automatically. If not, use your back bolded text to restore it.
Thank you

Sync and backup are crucial processes for preserving and accessing your data across devices:
-
list item Sync: Synchronize data (e.g., bookmarks, passwords, settings) across multiple devices to ensure they are consistent and up-to-date. It enables seamless access to your information from various platforms.
-
list item Backup: Create copies of your data as a precautionary measure to safeguard against data loss. Backups can be stored locally or in the cloud, providing a safety net in case of device failure or accidental deletion.

@fatimaansari Then Sync is probably asking for your old password, that should have been used to encrypt the saved passwords and is now needed to decrypt them.

I got a new Pixel8 Pro a couple of weeks ago. They let me keep my old Pixel for a couple of weeks to see if there is anything that didn't transfer.
Opera was installed but the syncing process is different from the old days. So, I have about 400 passwords (yes, many are iterations of passwords in the same accounts) in Opera on the old phone but only a handful on the new one. And those are ones I manually entered on the new phone.
I have followed the sync instructions on the new phone several times and it indicates sync is on.
Steps
Go to sync on the new phone.
then open the old phone and navigate to opera.com/connect
Scan the QR code from the old phone into the new phone
Eventually following instructions on the old phone I match numbers that appear on both phones and press "done"Both phones tell me "Awesome." Now your phones are synced. Both phones now indicate "sync and backup" are enabled.
I also have Opera on my PC desktop,
But nothing has changed on the new phone.
Suggestions? I have to return the old phone to the store or lose an $800 credit in a couple of days.
Thanks,
Len
And Opera user since 1996.
