I setup my opera mail using imap with gmail. I needed to remove one of the accounts from opera mail. I clicked remove account and it said all items stored locally would be deleted. Which it was imap so didn't think anything would be stored locally. It removed all my gmail including everything in my folders.

I realized that information must have been stored locally. I have a backup of my drive from last week and I tried to restore that account. All the mail returns except to the items in those folders.

Why/how are items not stored locally permanently deleted? Can these items be recoved?

You are saying that after have deleted your account on Opera Mail, your messages in Gmail were deleted so when you go to www.gmail.com they are not there?

It shouldn't have happened. Aren't they just archived or something like that?

That is exactly what happened. If I go to gmail. The labels/folders are empty.
I didn't expect that opera would delete all the mail when I removed the account.

I did find emails in the trash folder. However, they need to be fetched. But they were all deleted from the gmail account so there is nothing to fetch.

If they are in the trash, you can return them to the original folders.

Actually No you can't. The mail in the trash is subject only. It looks for the server for the rest of the email. But of course there is nothing on the server because it was deleted. In my opinion this is not a small bug. This is a large problem.

Luckily for me, my old pc ran thunderbird. So the messages were saved in Thunderbird. I had to login to the old pc and keep it offline. Export the mail and then import the mail to another account then put it back on gmail. Otherwise, it just deletes all the mail on thunderbird because gmail has all those folders empty.

I thought you were talking about Gmail's trash and not Opera Mail one.
