Clicking on any tab scrolls all the way back to the first tab

Still, with a new upgrade issue is still not fixed and in my opinion, right now it is even worse because now im barely able to click on horizontal scroll bar and click - move right...
If this will contintue i will start to look for an alternative. Broke something that was working fine.
Edit: i installed Google-Chrome. It works like it should, Opera is based on this and does not work like the same feature in Chrome. Shame...

@linfanusr Opera is not based on Chrome, but both are based on Chromium.

Chrome or Chromium does not change fact that under Google-Chrome there is no such issue and horizontal scroll tab bar works correctly. Right now, for me, Opera is not useable at all. With many tabs opened this horizontal scroll tab bar always placing itself at the left side, i have to scroll to the right side where is interesting at the moment tab that i'm on or using, and after closing or wanting to switch to another one near it the horizontall scroll tab bar is going to the left side so right now i stopped to using it because it makes no sense. It is just painfull to work with something like that.

@linfanusr Different product, different UI. Scrollable tab bar is still work in progress in stable versions of Opera One, it was recently turned on in Opera One Developer.

I experienced the same problem recently (Opera 102.0.4880.56). Extremely annoying, so I'm looking forward to a fix from the developers soon!

If you right click on the horizontal scrollbar, there is a new option there for left edge and right edge. I would bet someone left some code in there that automatically scrolls back to the left edge in certain conditions, and they didnt have enough tabs open to notice it was scrolling away from the tab that was open.
If you open a tab that is not on the current horizontal scrollbar screen (ie you have to scroll to get there), it should not automatically scroll to the first tab (or left edge) it should put the open tab in the middle of the horizontal scrollbar, or the right edge if there are none to the right of it.
I have been using ctrl+~ to try and get it to scroll back to the last tab when it auto jumps to the left edge, but it doesnt always work. Sometimes it is hard to find where the tab is on the scrollbar. Disclaimer I have a lot of tabs open.
It didnt used to do this though. Whatever the behavior was before this was fine. It was working fine in Opera beta, but broken in Opera Developer. Then they updated Opera beta in August and it was broken in both and has been ever since.

@bigmell Thanks, it's been a new piece of info that we can right-click on the horizontal scroll bar, I'd never tried, never imagined it would be possible bc it's so thin. I agree, the horizontal scroll bar should be located on the position defined by the current/active tab, and definitely not the far left side of the tabstrip.

@linfanusr
you should disable the : //setting/user interface/automatically create tab islands//, in new updates of opera. there is a kind of bug in this option. -

Dear Opera Tech/Support/Developer Team,
I have the same issue as the OP.- I also have several hundred of tabs opened (categorized by topics) and up until the last 2 Opera updates ago everything was running smoothly and Opera was my default browser for any situation.
- Then 2 updates ago (when they introduced the Tab Island feature if I remember correctly) came the first change: I clicked on any tab from the drop-down list at the horizontal tab-bar (I have several tabs open with G00gle search depending on the topic and if I wanted to go to one of the specific g00gle search tabs I just clicked on that one on the drop-down list and the horizontal tab bar jumped immediately to that active window. Until 2 updates ago.), however since then even if I clicked on one of the google search tabs on the drop-down list it no longer moved the top horizontal tab-bar to the active tab, but it did not move at all and I had to scroll there manually.
- Then came this last update - that was auto-installed yesterday, when I (to some extent accidentally) re-started Opera (I restart my PC very rarely - maybe once every 2 months - if possible).
- The positive thing in this last update is that now if I click on one of the g00gle search tabs from the drop-down list it does jump to that certain active tab again. So hooray for that bug-fix - I am honestly happy about that.
However:
- To my utter dismay now I have the same issue as the OP. Now if I click on any of the tabs in any of the Tab Islands it automatically scrolls back to the very first tab on the horizontal tab-bar.
- For me at least it only happens with tabs in a Tab Island. If I click on any tab outside of a tab island, it works normally: it switches the active tab and the top-horizontal bar is also functioning normally.
- However no matter which tab I click on any of the Island-tabs, the top-horizontal-tab-bar automatically jumps back to the very first tab on the horizontal tab bar.
- I even re-started my opera 3 times since then - yet the issue still remains, nothing seems to help what I (a non-IT-specialist) can do here....
- Please Opera hotfix this issue, cause the way it is now is super annoying...
- Thank you very much in advance.
- I wish I could turn off auto-updates for Opera and somehow downgrade the version and revert it to 2 patches before (without having to open hundreds of tabs manually one by one again of course), because for me up till 2 updates ago Opera was amazing and was by far my favorite and most reliable "go-to" browser.
- Since the last 2 updates however somehow I get one annoying bug each patch and if the next patch fixes the previous annoying bug I get a new one instead (like my current exact case that I have described above).
- Don't misunderstand me, I am aware that improving and upgrading functions is the normal way of things in the IT-industry, however I'd rather stay on a more stable, reliable version a bit longer till all such random bugs are ironed out by the developers and those users who are more "adventurous" and have no problems with using the latest version of Opera - the most up to date version that is currently under development - and as such possibly still with some bugs that need to be fixed in it.
- Still I am crossing my fingers that Opera will somehow manage to fix the issue soon, because otherwise I really enjoyed using Opera for a long long time (up until these last 2 "unfortunate" patches) ...

Yea man, sorry to report I am still having this problem in both opera beta and opera developer. It seems like a simple matter of someone put in some code to move the tab bar to the left edge, but they havent worked on it yet as far as I can tell.
I use ctrl+` to go to the last active tab and sometimes that helps. Also ctrl+shift+tab will show the last couple tabs you had open. Ctrl+pgup and Ctrl+pgdn will move forward and back one tab. But it is extremely annoying. I know I cant be the only one having this issue but no one has fixed it in all these months.

Re: Scroll bar moving always to the lef side when closing tab
@leocg
I have posted a topic on the same problem located here...
https://forums.opera.com/topic/65362/clicking-on-any-tab-scrolls-all-the-way-back-to-the-first-tabIt has been many months now and still no solution to this problem. Is there any update on this? Is there any confirmation that any one is even working on this? Have I posted in the right place on the forum? Am I asking the right people for help? Every time I click on a tab it scrolls all the way back to the first tab for so many months please can someone at least have a look at this bug?

@hmdsrsh thanks! It's work for me.
At first, I thought the solution is not working. But when I bring out the tabs from the existing tab islands then It fixed the problem for me. -

It doesnt seem to be working for me. I disabled tab islands and that didnt work. I have a lot of tab islands open is there a way to move them all out at once? I moved a couple out of the tab island but it still didnt work. And is the speed dial icon blurry for anyone else? The other ones are fine, but the last update that one looks blurry. -

@bigmell
Ahoy!
Ok I used it for a couple hours today after disabling tab islands yesterday. It seems like when I click on the tabs that are not in the tab islands, it works fine. But if I click the older tabs that are in tab islands, it will jump back to the left side.So after disabling tab islands, it will work if I click on a tab that is not in a tab island.
