Downloading Updates for Opera > 95 on Windows 7???

Now that Opera 96 is upon us...I see that if I check "Update & Recovery" Opera downloads 96 (I have Windows 7 and Opera 95), when I click "Relaunch" Opera simply returns to my latest version of 95. And then if I check again, it once again repeats the download and relaunch, rinse and repeat. Fine and good, I now know to not manually check on Update & Recovery.
However, does this mean Opera will incessantly over and over automatically try download 96 and then repeat that updating process, leaving me with my original 95. Then do it again and again. Or have the developers managed to just insert code so that the process never starts??
Thanks for any help/insight.

Delete everything in "C:\Windows\temp" and "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\temp" while Opera 95 is closed. Then, start it and check for updates. Does the download progress bar for the Opera 96 update that gets ignored jump to 100% really fast where the update is not really downloaded (check the temp folders to see)? Or, does the 96 installer really get downloaded?
I imagine that if the last build of 95 wasn't fixed to actually not download the update, Opera 95 might do that repeatedly where there'd be no fix unless a new 95 build was released just to fix it. But, that's just a guess. I would imagine that both Opera 95 (and previous versions) and the update server already have capabilities to totally ignore an update (including its download), but not sure. I guess we'll find out.
I would disable updates to break update checking anyway just for good measure.

Did what you said, Burnie (my name is Bernie, so I get to call you that. ), both on Update and Recover...and Help/About. Both returned a "Version:95.0.4635.46
Opera is up to date" response, so that takes care of that. It's all good. I'm going to continue with Opera 95.0.4635.46, and with Windows 7 (which I have been able continue to update with a work around and using the Microsoft Update Catalog). When and if thinngs get sticky, I will either start using a browser that works with Win 7 or update to Win 10.
Thanks for all the help, from you and Leo
