        @woj-tek

        It's beyond me why on earth Opera would scrap old forums just to... write a new one @_@ I thought that the intend was to use a ready made solution to avoid maintenance but no...

        It's not clearly indicated, but Vanilla is definitely a ready-made solution.

            Oh lord, I've looked at the sources but missed that. Nevertheless - I'm kinda scared by 'lightweightness'...

            Plus, anything that includes jQuery disqualifies as actually lightweight. :right:

              Good to know that myOpenID doesn't have vanilla flavor anymore. Rss feed for all discussions isn't workable with Opera Mini via port 8081 (though http site has the same layout now but still 'just reload' issue is present if that counts) and it ain't working like http://my.opera.com/community/xml/rss/forum/111 (default atom replaced with rss) where the name of the user is on top of any post. Posts edit mode has a timeout period and also the main forum site, not suited for Opera Mini users. '#' sign at the end of the link can be handled like a perpetuum reload, another drawback. At least 3 links can lead to the same result as page tag, post number or link from discussions page if that counts as href. It's hard to say how can be fixed inconsistent reloads or fake links issue for mobile users with touch/non-touch devices.

                Why throw away all that hard work and start over again? Don't you guys have enough to do with rewriting Opera?
                We're using an existing forum solution, and I'm guessing it's much easier to maintain than the old My Opera forum.

                  I couldn't help but notice that the re-direct page on My Opera (RIP) says -
                  "We updated our forums for a new and shiny look."

                  I immediately thought that "n" in "shiny" must be a typo and should be a "t"!

                  😃

                  (Sorry, couldn't resist.............)

                    @<a href=https://forums.opera.com/user/haavard "title = haavard"</a>

                    <a href = https://vivaldi.net/forum/index "title = Vivaldi.net"</a> also uses an existing solution, but it doesn't look like a POS, and has quick links, quoting, bbCode, and all the other stuff people need.

                    People have to acquire a whole new skill set even to format a post here.

                      Markup or markdown sucks.

                      That seals it fore me. I haven't got time to learn new skills just to find my way through a morasse of spam in order to help users get to grips with Opera — whether that's the new version or the old one.

                          Love the new forum, Opera Team. I understand it's still a work in progress. Spam reporting has got to be a priority. We'll help all we can if we have the tools.

                            They're also not rewriting Opera, just reskinning Chromium. They have much more time for wine tasting and polo matches this way.

                              That is not true. We made a new user interface on top of Chromium and did not just use Chromiums interface.

                                Well, what can one say? Loathe as I am to waste time with negative posts I'm pushed to think of anything positive, comparing this to the old system. It seems such waste to have lost the wealth of information we used to have and the way we could comfortably access it. I suspect my daily browse through the forums might die a death. Then, perhaps, for Presto users like myself that may be by design. Change is inevitable but Opera has gone through a total reinvention, I wonder how many users it can take with it.

                                  Also - the ui is not significantly different than original #facepalm...
                                  Nope, it's quite different. Quite noticeably in Win8, and not only in the surface but also in the code.

                                    @joshl

                                    I couldn't see any "new posts" or "first new post" buttons - either with threads or boards.
                                    In the discussion view new threads / topics with unread posts are highlighted with a gray background.
                                    Clicking in the thread titles themselves will act as "First new post".

                                    @woj-tek

                                    I'm using win8 - counting making corners square as opposed to slightly rounded ones is not quite noticeably....
                                    Yeah that's the only difference. :rolleyes:

                                      It is alarming that the Opera team chose to discard previous topics regarding issues and problems, feedback etc. for Opera Mobile when migrating to the new forums.

                                      Tons of messages with wishlists, pleases for fixing of longstanding bugs, etc. have all been removed and are no longer present.

                                      These old postings contained valuable information with regards to what users wanted most and which things they were most desperate to see fixed. Given that many bugs that cause serious annoyance on a regular basis to users never get fixed, combined with the removal of all related postings on those subjects, it would seem that the Opera team still has not learned how to care what the users really want and need - something I have long seen as an ongoing problem. I see the culture has not changed. What a shame.

                                        Unfortunately the former forum was filled with SPAM and useless (and bandwidth wasting) whining and complaining. So, Opera gutted it and I say: good for them. Let's hope the whining is now over and that we can get down to giving support for the new browser instead of having to see thread after thread having nothing whatsoever to do with getting support for it.

                                          What would be useful about these posts? If they were confirmed bugs or popular requests then they already have read it and noted elsewhere. The correct place to report bugs is in the bug report wizard, not in the forums.

                                            They were useful because it allowed people to add their voices to the bugs which were affecting them. Given that sending bug reports doesn't seem to get them fixed month after month after month, having an ongoing thread where people could add their name to the pile of those wanting it fixed might have gotten the point across that it was indeed something Opera should get taken care of. Unfortunately there are some negative users on the forums who seem to respond to every topic and have something to say about any type of complaint against Opera, so I wouldn't expect any longstanding issues to be fixed anytime soon if that's the sort of attitude that prevails here. What a shame, because Opera is already a wonderful Android browser. I can only imagine how awesome it would be if some of the reported bugs were taken more seriously.

                                            This will be my last comment on this subject, since it's clearly still a waste of time to hope for glaring issues to actually get fixed.

                                            To anyone reading this who notices bugs or usability issues in Opera: SEND well written BUG REPORTS to the Oopera team.
