Out of memory

There doesn't seem to be any recent posts about this issue that occurs quite frequently on my laptop using Windows 11. What irritates me is I am told to reload the page and it works again for a while. This issue only seems to occur with Opera. I have tried other browsers but I like the Opera facility whereby you can save pages in a grid that facilitates easy access.

@stonedg im having the same issue as your having as well, i think it may be an extension i recently added, but its off when im not on the site its made for, and ive gotten the out of memory error at least 5-6 times so far. but since its not on becuz the website its for isnt open, is it really that extension and not something from opera? ive just recently updated my browser yesterday or the day before and its still happening. i went through old forum posts about people having the issue but there was a lack of any real problem solving answers.

There's a known out of memory issue (due to a process memory limit change in Chromium) when using Google Drive or Google Docs if you leave the page open a long time without reloading. If you think you're running into that, you can avoid it by closing the Google Drive tab and opening up a new one every once in a while.

@n7nobodycats Sadly, since my post, the issue has continued even with Google Chrome.. I am sure this is a Windows 11 problem that Microsoft doesn't seem interested in solving, at least from Internet searches the problem has been common for 11 users only.

@stonedg im on windows 10, and the page which ran out of memory was me opening my email, (gmail) and having it open for less than 5 minutes. i was looking something up checked my email to send an email out, went back to the tab saying it had run out of memory when it was only open for 5mins or less. i didnt have google drive or docs open. i only have opera running, alongside discord.

@n7nobodycats Thank you. I had been considering going back to Windows 10 but that is apparently not the answer

Moved from chrome to opera recently... and now i have this issue on various pages and large file transfers. I see that this isuue is still not fixed and is breaking my work and experience i in a very bad way!!! If i can't fix it today i move back to chrome. Why you publicize your broken gaming browser in Youtube?? Fix your stuff before asking people to try it out. This is exactly why people use chrome, all other browsers are broken in some way and don't give a shit... never had any problem in my life with chrome. Ask youself why people don't like your stuff.

Re: Out of memory
Date
2023 August 07, MondayVersion Info
Windows 11 / Opera One(version: 100.0.4815.76)Issue
Opera Browser tab stops and reports 'out of memory' when streaming video from various & typical sources e.g. YouTube, Commercial TV streaming services, SBS & ABC dot com.au etc.Issue only occurred after an update to Opera.
Resolution / Work Around
Simply remove some of the (unused) shortcuts from the Opera Menu sidebar, especially the more Processing & Data hungry stuff like Messengers, particularly if you don't use them, and of course Extensions, particularly if they are semi-dodgy.Since removing a couple of Messenger shortcuts from my Sidebar all is good. I guess you could try assigning addition memory, probably caching to Opera, so it has more headroom to deal with video streaming, though Opera should be able to stream 1 YouTube stream in the mix for instance at full HD without crapping itself.
Opera
Please fix or give us the tools to better manage your browser. We use Opera for a reason. Hope it helps, enjoy! -
