Hello.
I just got back to Opera, having used it happily until about version 11, I think. Then, for corporate reasons, I had to start using something else. Today I decided to give Opera a go again and I was quite surprised.
First, I found it pretty, nice to look at, in many ways. And with a nice user interface in general. And the option to remove the tiny space above tabs when window is maximized is great (I missed that option so much back then...).
But then I started missing some things. It doesn't seem to have proper bookmarks. Even the FAQ says you are "safe" because you can select which bookmarks you want to import to become speed dials, but those aren't the same, instead being very different things (I think).
Then I missed some mouse gestures which were what pleased me the most on those old versions (specially the "right click + mouse wheel" to cycle tabs!). And, if I remember well, the gestures were customizable, weren't they?
And there's no status bar, no interface (quick) customization option with icons drag-and-drop support...
Finally, it all seemed very familiar to me, until I realized it seems very much like Google Chrome. The configurations, the interface in general, the way extensions integrate (and the limited interface change they are allowed to do), etc.
It thought I would find an even better Opera (not Chrome), with even more features (not less). But it seems to be just a flavor of Chrome now. What happened? The look is neat, but why were those great features abandoned? Couldn't this (certainly admirable) design be applied to all that (happily) existed before?
I am sorry to be coming from the dead. And please apologize me if there is some other channel by which I could communicate to Opera team somehow (if there is, I couldn't find it).
