@alvs unfortunately you can't do it on Opera. Brave has this function built in somehow, firefox does this through addon. Earlier we can do this through a flag in chromium based browsers. Now google removed the flag. I like Opera much and use it daily except YouTube.

@alvs I was hoping to maintain Youtube playing the music when we switish to a different tab in Opera. Currently Youtube stops the player automatickly, Brave Browser managed to keep youtube playing in background browser. You can read more about it here https://www.technobezz.com/how-to-play-youtube-videos-in-the-background/

I use YouTube Vanced or NewPipe instead of browser for YouTube background playback. Way much better.

I managed to do it by clicking on the YouTube site setting and opening it as desktop site!
It can run at the background now and I can open other apps!

Since in brave browser I can listen to videos from YouTube even on locked screen, I'd like to have the same in opera, is there anyway to do that??

This would be a really useful feature indeed. Somebody has submitted a feature request already, hopefully it is implemented soon:

Apologies for commenting on a post in 2021 but somenot all screen locks will offer you an Media Control option. I am working on a solution myself and the closest is to install VLC Player and use their widget for Media Controls by placing it on your Home Screen. Be very careful for some reason VLC Player likes to buffer as if it's being throttled by a lot just go to YouTube and check the share button as VLC Player and you should be able to play music in the background even when your Smartphone falls asleep. I haven't so far found any other solution besides change your theme on your phone to one that offers media controls on your device. If I some how get VLC Player to stop buffering it's so far the best alternative instead of having to pay for YouTube scam services.
