Follow-up to Opera Crashes when searching via Address Bar

I must say, this issue has reappeared. The first time I open Opera then click into the address bar, which highlights my home page URL, then type in a single letter Opera crashes. If I have several tabs open, running music and something else, when I open the 3rd tab and do the same thing it crashes. The work around is to open Opera, click into the address bar, set the cursor at the end, then backspace all the way to the beginning. Then everything works but I keep forgetting to do this every time I open Opera.
Today was the last straw because I thought I'd try to fix it by resetting the browser (I run Opera portable). Well, two (2) hours later I'm still trying to configure the browser (I did save bookmarks) and configuration is such a nightmare (nothing is where I can find it). Now the same crashing occurs so I've given up.
I refuse to use Chrome so Vivaldi "standalone" seems like a decent alternative (especially configuration). I'm tired of these browser wars. Sigh...

Just a follow up note...tab management is a breeze in Vivaldi. I had to install an extension in Opera to get a new tab to be active when I opened it through a link. Oh well.
