Are you sure you tested the same Opera browser I have? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.browser
Apparently you and me have the same hardware (HTC EVO V 4G in the sig = EVO 3D) so it's not a case of very limited memory (unless we're talking about available internal storage free space).
The new Opera is not that bad, you say it like JS or page rendering was running slow or something (or maybe tab switching, it's not that smooth). If it wasn't a third-party app interfering it must have been your network. Or maybe something was up with Off-road servers or you're trying to access heavy desktop sites?Chromium-based browsers are really heavier than Opera Classic or Firefox right now, but they run JS/DOM faster and are more compatible with real world sites.
BTW you posted about the final version in the topic of the beta.

Well, like I said, I've never too much used any of the browsers other than mini, because I've never seen any of them work as good as mini overall (even w/all the issues I've had w/mini).
So recently I remember getting an update or something about 16 & yest I got the notion to test it out. I was a little confused about which is which, when it came time for me to choose which was the right one relating to the recent (last couple days) update or release. I already know that classic is the old 12 I think, so that left 2 & I chose one & looked at the detail & saw v16 so I figured that must be the one? In the back of my mind I was thinking the other one was like 15 or 14. I'm lost... there's too many versions avail at same time. Hang on & I'll check to make sure there ain't two 16's, so you know which one for sure I referred to...
... ok, it sure is confusing. I guess I technically made my post in wrong forum. They are both 16 w/nearly identical v numbers but one is beta (this forum?) & the one I tested, and reported on w/my post looks like it is not beta. I originally planned to make a current test on all 3 non minis, but the 16 was so horrible that after test, I didn't even wanna get anymore aggro w/the others, so I stopped the testing for now, esp since I was assuming that the one I was testing was supposed to be the latest, greatest, bestest opera ever & my phone isn't exactly a slouch, and I've seen lots of problems w/these android, non mini, non classic browsers, over the last near year since I had the phone & had installed all the versions to try out... So I was largely disappointed.
As to your mention of me "leaving mini out", I don't know why you say that as 1) this is opera not mini thread & 2) I was here to specifically report on my test of the appropriate browser for this thread (except it looks like I made a mistake & mixed up which one was which, re: this thread.
As to memory issue you surmised, can you elaborate. My phone info is on siggy & it's not too shabby on memory (I think internal is about 1 gig (?) but how much free do I need? Is that ram or different? I do have a lot of the internal memory used (maybe 70-75% used) but wait... lemme go check to see if I have it on the SD card (but cache & ram or whatever would still be internal regardless, no?
...ok, I checked & it's on card but I don't really know how it's all parsed out. It's like 61mb but only 7.6 on card? so it does sound like it still depends largely on the phone memory. I noted there was 30mb in cache. I don't how/why so much as I only used it to do that test. Anyway, I cleared the cache & I'll try again but I don't think it's that.

Not sure why you provided the playstore page link, with asking me if I had same browser as you because nowhere on that pg does it make any reference (not that I could see anyway..) to what version it is, but upon further read of your post, yes, It must be same one because I see you noted I was in wrong beta forum, so it's opera 16 & according to linked pg, it was just updated (as I had noted) thus we apparently have same phone & same opera browser.
As to how bad it was, I was too aggravated to go to in depth w/the report (oh, by the way, I just remembered...the comments at the bottom of pg you linked, weren't weren't to great either, nor have many of the past comments I've seen b4 update) but as far as what I did say, there was no exaggeration & I tried be at least slightly specific. Nothing worked. Nothing had any sort of response to speak of. I tried loading 1 or 2 sites, nothing too awful intensive I didn't think & I remember having to wait near 5 minutes just to see a pg look rendered, but another several min after that, before any interaction or scrolling was working & when it finally was alive it was jerky & unstable. I also tried to play a video from can site & it took about 10 min b4 it would start & when it did it would play for 2 seconds & buffer (or whatever it was doing) for a minute. It was about impossible to use that or anything. And I know I don't have to tell you that it's not very many days b4 the vm throttle kicks in, but ya know what, it doesn't really matter all that much, if at all, in terms of 3g, cause sprint 3g is the worst around & so when they throttle you back, I don't even notice a difference & most video is pretty playable even at 250k. No problem w/native opening & playing idea or w/uc browser.
Phone acting up alot lately. Real quirky page views even on mini & tons of lost connections & throwing errors & getting black pg freeze-dried requiring force stop on mini (but never anywhere else) so I don't know. Oh yeah, and the single column on Opera 16 also is way not anchored properly. It flies all over the place. All I know is I find the opera browsers on this phone to be very undesirable so far, but between mini, native & uc, I can git er done (albeit w/some problems in mini). I think I've got to find some way to clear out more memory internal perhaps.
Thx

My phone has 1 GB of internal memory (data storage) to store stuff, yours apparently has 4 GB because EVO V 4G is the CDMA version. Take a look at Settings -> Apps -> Downloaded tab to know how much is being used. The newest Opera stores the cache in the internal storage so if you have almost no space left it may cause problems, so you might want to move some apps or other personal files to the SD Card to give it space to breath.
797 MB from the 1 GB of RAM can be used by apps (the rest is taken by the OS/GPU), you can see how much is being used in the tab "Running", the cached processes are simply occupying the rest of the "free" RAM displayed at the bottom of the screen and don't interfere in the performance.
Single column mode isn't available in Opera 16, but there's a setting to enable text wrap.
I don't have the same experience that's why I wanted to confirm we had the same Opera. So maybe you're out of internal storage space, or your mobile connection is really bad, or an app is interfering like an anti-virus or a battery saver app.

Hang on... I didn't read your whole post yet just part about phone at top. Maybe i misunderstood you. I thought you had originally said you had same phone? My phone is vm ONLY. Even if you meant " = EVO 3D, they're not same phone. Same, but seriously upgraded was mine. The 3D I believe he 2.3 or something like that, o/s, while mine has 4.03 & there were some other significant upgrades as well. The internal deal is confusing when you read others blogs report on specs. I think it has a 4gig internal card (I have a 32 gig external, while 1 gig of ram I think. I'm at approx 70 to 75% there so around 250 my free currently. So if your not coma then 4get what I was saying about the throttling, as you prolly don't have that issue in place. Anyway I'll go back & read rest of your post.

Ok lemme cover next point. Maybe I'm wrong but I think you have the memory stuff mixed up (or they do which is what I always thought) Yes, I have 4gig internal SD, but 1 gig memory (how they put it & I think that refers to RAM. so if I did what you say & look in settings right now, I believe it'll mistakenly say 1gig of internal memory w/250 MB free, but they make no mention of the 4 gig internal SD card, so I think the authors are from China & wrong translation or something. Hang on & I'll check....
... Ok... It's crazy like I said. Under "internal memory" it lists 1.11GB w/289 megs currently free, but I think the 1 gig is ram, not internal memory. They make no reference to the 4gig internal SD card, so I think the writer was clueless. It correctly lists my 32 gig external SD & I have about 8 gigs left on that. (hey, this is my 'puter). And as I reported earlier, I have as much as can be put app wise, on the external SD. So I'm frickin lost. I don't even remember........ Oh yeah, the opera 16...dont worry, nothing is ever gonna work right for me anyway (cursed).... But I'll try to read more of your text..

Next point.... I've already said that I moved all possible/allowable apps to SD card pretty recently so there can't be much that can be that isn't already

It's all messed up. Using the pathway apps, it 845 MB at bottom left corner, but then I look again a few seconds later and now it said 655 MB (so that's fried), but if pathway is storage, internal it said a whole different figure (maybe due to not just apps?). Whatever I said it was... 289 free & 1.11 I internal storage, so that difference would be what 800 something?
*OK the "running" tab is currently hovering around during 600 mb
*OK... I could've sworn I was looking at a single column, maybe not... But in any event there's no anchoring like in mini.. It goes all left & right when scrolling.
I thing you may be correct about the memory or some element of it. I think I reported all the numbers you asked about. If not lemme know. Sorry for going on so much . Didn't mean to I just tried to say what was pertinent. Please let me know about the numbers I posted if you see an issue. I think it's the memory as well? I have good anti-virus (avast one of best available) and yeah there might be some interference going on as I have too many damn apps. I'll have to... I need help to get this for sure figured out. Not only opera 16 but phone in general is now ultra quirky. I think it shoes more vulnerability on Opera 16. I'll try to just give you what asked for.

@Nowurtalkin Firstly dude, please summarize post in lesser words, you have written down so many words that it is hard to go through.
Now, RAM and ROM(Internal Memory) are different things. If you are saying that your ROM(Internal Memory) is just 1Gb, then it's too low, you should stick with Opera Mini. It should be at least 4GB to make Opera Mobile work properly. You external memory (SD Card) doesn't matter as applications are installed on ROM(Internal Memory).
Maybe, if you have your box in which your mobile came, you can write down the specification here so that we may provide help.

My goodness, yes please take the suggestion to try to read people's replies entirely and reply all at once in a more concise way.
1st: The Virgin Mobile HTC EVO V 4G is just the HTC EVO 3D CDMA version relaunched with the Android 4.0.x update built-in.
2nd: Both run Android 4.0.x. The EVO 3D received the update from 2.3 to 4.0 a long time ago.
3rd: So yes we have the same phone, but I assumed your version has more storage (4 GB). Now I see that the operating system is taking about 3 GB from your internal storage, leaving you with 1 GB of internal storage = ROM for you to use with apps and personal files (what you apparently called of "internal SD"), apart from the external SD Card. There's no need to post the specification which can be easily checked online:

Nope, it works completely fine in my phone with 1 GB of internal storage. This isn't low at all. Opera Mini you give you a much worse experience with websites by its nature of transcoding the pages and killing JavaScript, etc.
Also @Nowurtalkin said he has about 289 MB free. That's more than enough, so the storage isn't the problem.
So he certainly has a problem with his phone, or a configuration, or another app is interfering since I have the same phone and it's OK. I suppose it's an anti-virus or battery saver app.
@Nowurtalkin can you check if everything at Settings -> Developers options is unchecked and the process limit is set to standard? -

There were a lot of different things stated & asked. I can't read the whole thing & then remember all those different points & issues, so I answered several at one time & then I went after several more, one at a time, the best I could. I don't see the difference, if I answer all the points & questions, they are there to just read them, whether in one post or several. Anyway, sorry.
I know that ram & ROM are 2 different things, but they are also both memory & both internal, so... In my manual, I don't think it referred to ROM, while I think it does mention ram. I don't have it handy but if memory serves, it's like I reported previously, which is a 4 gig internal SD card & 1 gig of ram memory. Additionally, I have a 32 gig external SD card (actually, they are both internal, but I assume the difference is that the one deemed 4 gig internal SD, is only for certain extra important things. It would seem to me that the internal SD is indeed the phone's internal memory card, like for OS & system stuff & contacts? Maybe I'm wrong about that. I also have put all allowable apps on my 32 gig SD, but I'm guessing only certain elements go there & much of also stays on the other internal card. Sorry if that isn't concise enough.

@Nowurtalkin can you check if everything at Settings -> Developers options is unchecked and the process limit is set to standard? It's not "what I call it".... It's what it's called in the specs. I answered the questions rightly I believe. And I know my phone is a re-branded 3D, and maybe you updated the OS but I believe there were 1 or two other differences as well. You yourself, noted a surprising difference you find in some element of the memory, so if that's different, then right there makes them different, and a difference that you are saying is critical to the issue, thus different. Also, isn't the interface thingy different as well? (I forget what they call it, but you know... The way the native pages look & are structured. Maybe their the same in that respect but my newer, upgraded phone was left with the older style interfaces. Nevertheless, I think there was some other difference as well.

Everything is unchecked except for keeping screen lit when charging. The other is standard
Does the 3D have the WiMax 4g?

Yep, the difference I noted is your version reportedly has MORE STORAGE than mine. So it doesn't contribute to the issue at all. It's something else.

Nope, both have HTC Sense 3.6 when fully updated.
Originally posted by Nowurtalkin:

According to GSMArena the CDMA version has. Again that'd be a minor difference between the versions of the same model (the antenna and a difference on the chipset to accommodate it) that doesn't contribute to the issue you're experiencing.
I really don't know what to think apart from another app interfering or maybe network, sorry.
Have you tried accessing via a good Wi-Fi network?I can't troubleshoot more than this without seeing everything installed in the phone, etc...
And how weird it is for the stock browser to be working fine according to you! :x -

Earlier today I composed most of a reply to help get this worked out, my phone became so unusable & unstable during the process (most likely the same or at least partly the same issue that has been causing the probs I posted here about) that I not only couldn't finish & post but it was so ready to die that I couldn't even get what I had written saved, so I'll have to do it over. 1 thing also to answer is no I didn't try it (16) on wifi yet. I was ironically using wifi last nite to download a sizeable file faster than I can w/VM network, but I had some new problem (never b4 seen) w/that as well. I was able to connect to the wifi but I couldn't get the download to initiate. I tried a bunch of times & I have used this same wifi hotspot many times b4 w/no problem so I have no clue what was stopping the download from occurring. I had to do a 350 MB download via 3g because I can't even get the benefit of the 4g while throttling is in place, so 250k 3g is it for me w/o wifi now. Jeez. Also you said something strange about me saying native browser no problem. I don't know what you reference there that I said, but I haven't had any problem w/native but I haven't tried to use it to access opera 16 if that's what you're saying. It looks like phone is working well enuff at the moment to let me post this & maybe later I'll rewrite my comments to the rest of what you told me.
Appreciate the attempts to help me w/this. (oh & by the way, if I had to use wifi to get a better experience w/16, I don't think I would bother w/it anyway. I only use wifi (down the st) for quick big downloads.

I never said that. I just wanted to confirm the issue wasn't in your carrier's connection. Well I don't know how to help more... I've seen some reports Opera isn't loading any page with this release and jumping back to the Speed Dial, perhaps try Opera again when the next update is released presumably fixing this issue.

Download Clean Master from Google Play Store and clean up your phone. See if that make any difference.

I didn't say you did say it. I understood that your suggestion was to rule out network issues. I added the comment just to say if I couldn't get good performance of 16 w/o wifi, I wouldn't bother w/it. I do believe it's at least in part, if not fully, an issue w/memory or storage or phone since I'm experiencing an increasing level of instability in general. I hope I can find out what's going on. On the other hand I noted quite a few similar negative comments about the browser.
Thx again
