Opera export/import bookmarks from Windows 7 to 10 doesn't transfer "other bookmarks."

I have an old Windows 7 desktop and just bought a Windows 10 laptop computer. My Opera version is up to date. The export function gives me an html file with probably all the links. After importing it, I only get the bookmarks bar, and a few from the speed dial. I got just one from the "other bookmarks," which is where I have most of my bookmarks.

Any suggestions?

@garycohen Looked into bookmarks.html file and try to find out what's wrong. On the other hand if bookmarks bar and speed dial are being exported correctly why don't you move other bookmarks to temp folder in bookmarks bar before exporting? Who relieved you from thinking?

First, I checked which bookmarks I got imported. The one from the "other bookmarks" was actually from the "unsorted bookmarks." So I redid the export. When I imported it into my Windows 10 computer I was more careful as to all the options that are given as to what and where to import and got it to work. The graphic pictures in the bookmark images were not imported, but the titles and links are.

@pavelopdev I didn't bother to move the bookmarks bar to temp because there was nothing wrong with it. Overall your remarks were not helpful, but they certainly were nasty, which seemed to be the point of your commenting in the first place.

I do not understand a little what you named the "graphic pictures in the bookmark images". Bookmark files have traditional format/layout/structure coming back from the Middle Ages of web browsers, so they should contain ICON data like here on the screenshot below:

There are other browsers which remove such data as ADD_DATA and ICON from hyperlink definitions. E.g. example from Links2:

If there are different bookmarks files used by Win7 and Win10 I do not know. Opera should not botch the import/export process at all.

Check HTML tags <DL> <DT>. The bookmarks files have very simple structure and few errors, if exist!, should be corrected during import (reading HTML language).

I have an impression you did not understand what I wrote. I suggested to create temp folder in Bookmarks Bar and then move there either Other bookmarks folder, or Unsorted bookmarks directory - with your contents. Of course, following what you have described.

Perhaps I was nasty, but not unhelpful. For future, pay attention to contents, not to the style of an answer, please.

BTW If you have other web browsers installed, do few experiments - export Win7 bookmarks to a file (create bookmarks.html) and import it to other applications. Forensic scanning of Opera should be the last resort in findings of many problems of this sort.

For future reference, if you goto the URL opera://about and take note of the "profile" folder, close Opera, and goto the profile folder in Windows Explorer, you'll see the "Bookmarks" and "BookmarksExtras" files. What you do is copy the two files from the old Windows install and use them to replace the ones in the new Windows install and you'll get all your bookmarks. And, they'll have their icons.

@burnout426 Thank you. That worked perfectly. I should have tried it on my own, but I didn't consider that Windows 7 and 10 used the same program structure for Opera. Duh.
