      I cannot download, uninstall or do anything since I re-downloaded Windows 10...this happened once before and I kept retrying for months...on happy day it worked...

      Is this a problem that has a real cause...or can be fixed? The copy I have opens and does absolutely nothing...and won't uninstall. The only option I get is to Upgrade, not to uninstall and reinstall...

      Help!!! I love Opera and would prefer to keep using it...

      Ideas???

        What happens when you try to download Opera?

          @leocg Thank you for replying.
          I get the download: Opera Setup. There is a new number each time. then, when they don't work (it tries, extracts and then gives a fail notice with retry as an option.)
          After the second or third 'fail' it gives me a download full downloader option, along with an option to do so later. Neither option works...same answer, a...' you have failed, Try again?'

          Hope that this helps.

          I cannot open settings or anything on the orphaned shell that remains and won't uninstall.

          Ideas?

          thank you so much

            @pmlb Seems that the installer is not being able to connect to the server and download the content.

                @leocg Hello again,

                I actually did try to do that and got the same result...I thought the same thing about it not connecting...the error message said something about connection problem...

                I'll try the offline installer again...but, it always says Upgrade, not download.

                thank you for sticking with me 🙂

                pat

                  Hi Leo

                  I just tried both ways and it isn't downloading.

                  thanks

                    @pmlb So you can go to the site but you can't download the offline installer? Or you can't even open the site to download it?

                      Uninstall Opera manually if you have to.

                      Open up the Windows Task Manager and kill any Opera processes you see.

                      Delete the install directory. It should be at "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera" or "C:\Program Files\Opera" depending on whether you installed Opera for the current user or all users.

                      Open the Windows Task Scheduler and delete any Scheduled Opera autoupdate tasks.

                      Open regedit and do the following:

                      Delete any Opera items in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"

                      Delete any Opera keys in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall".

                      Delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Opera Software".

                      Delete any Opera keys in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\StartMenuInternet" and "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet".

                      Delete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\OperaStable", "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\OperaStable", and "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\OperaStable".

                      Delete any Opera items in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RegisteredApplications" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RegisteredApplications".

                      Then, download the Opera offline x64 installer (with another browser like Edge), launch it, click "options", set "install path" to "C:\Program Files\Opera", set "install for" to "All users", uncheck "import data from default browser", set Opera to be the default browser if you want, adjust any other options you want, and install.

                      None of that will delete your Opera data. If none of that helps, you can rename your profile and cache folders too to have Opera start with fresh ones. They should be at "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable" and "C:\Users\yourusername\AppDAta\Local\Opera Software\Opera Stable" respectively.

                      If Opera still doesn't load, create a new user account on Windows, log into it and try Opera there. If Opera works fine there, it's something messed up with your normal Windows user account.

                        @leocg Hi

                        Sorry. I can open the Opera site and click Download. After two failed attempts using the Opera Setup installer download, Then it automatically offers the full download installer option. Neither of these work.

                        thanks

                          Download https://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/desktop/68.0.3618.63/win/Opera_68.0.3618.63_Setup_x64.exe specifically and run it. Does that one fail too?

                          If that doesn't work I think the Windows 10 install is messed up and it might be best to reinstall Windows 10 again to make sure everything is good.
