[Solved]Cannot delete search engines

I originally installed Opera when I was living in Asia. A number of years ago I relocated to Europe. Opera updates automatically, so I have the latest version. Opera's pop-up search tool defaults to Google, which is fine, but it's a version of Google specific to the Asian country I lived in when I initially installed Opera. That region-specific Google page defaults to Chinese characters, which I can't read.
I would simply like to delete this and other region-specific search engines from the list of engines, and replace them pages appropriate for region I live in now. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this. Under "Manage Search Engines" you can select which of them you want to be the default, but it appears you are restricted to only those engines that are baked in. You can also add a search engine, but you can't designate it as the default.
I've looked under the hood using "about:flags", but if the setting is there I can't find it. Surely this can't be right?
If somebody can tell me how to fix this, I'd be most obliged.

You're asking the wrong question. You need to ask how to change what Opera thinks your locale is. Of course you could (while Opera is closed) delete the file "Local State" from your profile folder and let Opera determine it again, but that would effect more than just your locale. The alternative is to edit the file and change the codes for "country" and "country from server" to the correct values yourself.
