Not too sure where to look and how to fix this - I have a problem whereby YouTube is not open anywhere on my PC, but continues to play in the background of other tabs I have open on Opera. I am still able to pause and play the video content when open in another tab, on another website, but it presents as though it is in the background, almost like a flickering shadow. It is fully sized and almost like an animated watermark, but with no accompanying audio. I have attempted numerous setting changes and have even uninstalled and reinstalled the application, but the problem persists. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Does something like this occur often?

Do you have any extensions? If so, disable them to see if it goes away.

Do a test. Download the Opera installer, launch it, click "options", set "install path" to a folder named "Opera Test" on your desktop, set "install for" to "standalone installation", uncheck "import data from default browser" and install. Test in that Opera, but don't enable Opera Sync and don't install any extensions.

Is it gone in that Opera? If so, it's something with your settings and or data with your normal Opera. You can goto the URL opera://settings/reset and reset your settings. But, you'll lose your extensions. If all else fails, you can start with a fresh profile (and lose all your settings etc.). Goto the URL opera://about and take note of the profile and cache paths. Close Opera and delete those paths. Then, when you start Opera, you'll get a fresh profile. Uninstalling and reinstalling Opera alone won't do that unless you choose to delete your data during the uninstall.

Hi there; so it worked for a little while, and then resorted back to square one by yesterday evening and this morning. Essentially, I deleted a system profile and backup profile on Opera, and restarted everything. It worked for a little while, but now the same thing is happening again.

I am going to attach two videos to show you what's happening. Maybe they might help further and narrow down possible options of what to do, because at this point in time, I'm stumped.

Okay, looks like I maybe can't upload videos here. Let me know where I can maybe send them, so that you can take a look.

@amynweb It would be better if it was a service where we could see the video online buyt I guess that one will work.

Note: I've added two links to watch the videos online

The spot at the top left where you click to show the other video. Try right-clicking it instead and choosing "inspect element". That should load developer tools with the element that's embedding the video selected. If it doesn't select the right element, hit ctrl + shift + c when you're on the Elements tab in the developer tools. Then, you can move up and down the source of the page and each element should get highlighted on the actual page. This hopefully will help you locate the element in question. Then, if you do, perhaps, something about the element's attributes might reveal where it's coming from over why it's there.

As for the video that's playing in the background, it was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOcSpelCNUU in your example video. Is it always that video? Is it added to your queue or watch list for some reason?

@burnout426 Hi there, apologies for the delay in response! Tried this as well, to no avail. All suggestions seem to work for a while before it then returns.

That video is prevalent, but there are other videos that play too. It isn't on any watch queues or anything. I have noticed it happens across browsers now too, so I am beginning to think it isn't a problem isolated to Opera. I am hoping it isn't a virus, but the antivirus on the PC seems to be all in order, so I'm not sure what's up.

Is there a way to download and install an older version of Opera? Any other suggestions? Thank you for all of your help and feedback up to this point, it is much appreciated!

@amynweb Does it only happen across browsers when you're logged into you Google/Youtube?

@burnout426 Yes, I think so. Convinced it's a virus at this point...
