      Hey.

I have a problem wit Opera I wanna talk about. Not necessary a bug though.

The "Block ads" function is great ! It works like a charm, seems to consume even less performance than ublock, and, the main reason of why it's so good : it's included ! You don't even need ton download and install anything more. Everything is in your browser, and it's fantastic !

Though, like AdBlock (the non 'plus' version only, I think. Not sure), there seem to be a forced and invisible exception list, which also seems to contain YouTube. In the case of Opera, it's even worst, because you can't disable it when on AdBlock you (partially ?) can.

Keep in mind that it can also be a bug, with "Block Ads" or with YouTube... Well in that case it isn't a bug anymore.

But I have some difficulties to trust the bug option, since Opera wouldn't be the first one to sign some contracts with Google just to let the ads be shown. Even though I pray it's a bug, because if it isn't I'll definitively stop using Opera for ever.

I think AdBlock should always be disabled, but like I just said, I think it. It's not the opinion of everyone. And even if it would be, there is always a moment when a good old ad blocker is necessary. Like when HP France thinks it's a good idea to diffuse a 1min32 non-skipable ad.

Share your thoughts in comments just down bellow, I definitively wanna know what you are thinking about all this !

You can manage ad-blocker exceptions in settings page.

Well, ad-blocker works fine on YouTube here. Of course there may be one or other ad that escape occasionally but it works in general.

I have attempted to use Opera’s propitious built-in ad blocker a couple versions back.

I have also noticed ads getting through. These were typically the annoying ones users do not wish to see. It also likes (or ‘liked’ if it has been fixed) to break certain websites. The sites had not a single form of ads present yet 50 per cent of their content was getting blocked forcing me to white list sites constantly.

I had grown tired of it within a few days and switched back to uBlock. The only real advantage of the built-in ad blocker is perhaps a little more battery life on a portable machine. The couple more CPU cycles by uBlock do not make a difference on a modern PC while also providing its users with additional features.
