I have two hard disks, one running Win XP, the other Win 7 with clean install. I also have backed up copies of bookmarks.adr
and bookmarks.mtl which import fine to both IE and Chrome. I have Opera 20.. loaded clean on Win 7
but no way to import bookmarks. The files seem to be required in the restricted access part of
Windows. I can use Ztree to move a file anywhere but there. Any ideas? TIA

You can't directly import bookmarks into Opera Blink yet, only the ones from Opera Presto. However you need to have it installed and Opera Blink should recognize that installation.

You can try an extension or open the html file in Opera ans add each link manually.

Hi Rclund, if you already have imported your bookmarks, into the Chrome profile, then you can simply copy "Bookmarks", and "Favicons*" files, from the Chrome profile folder to the Opera profile directory, after that, all bookmarks from Chrome, should appear on the "Bookmarks bar". For more details, please have a look here.

Thanks for your responses. The link to other discussion was too esoteric for me and maybe not related to Windows 7.
Also, I don't see or understand "profile folder or directory". Bookmarks.adr is easily accessible in Win XP in the
Documents and Settings folder but not under Win 7 where it has to go. My Win 7 copy is OEM so no migration is allowed.
I paid $40 for my first copy of Opera roughly 20 years ago and hate to lose using it. The Oxport program was great for
standardizing bookmarks and contacts for other browsers. Then I have Ztree for getting around most Microsoft road blocks
except for the "access denied" thing. I have used it even to edit a file in Hex. It shows up all the hidden things.
I could continue to use WinXP but it has already collected some malware (Adware)that cannot be gotten rid of. Win7
does not allow it to load. If anyone thinks of another possible solution, I would be thankful for a response.

Do you see any bookmarks here:

                https://link.opera.com/bookmarks/

If you do, add that page to your speed dial, and use your bookmarks online until they get synchronisation sorted.
